My club is your stereotypical trap club, run by old white men, and to call a spade, the majority are bigots. Hopefully this is localized to my club, but it doubt it.
Almost all of the new interested shooters at my club to come out and try are of Asian/India decent. There’s a new handful every week. None return. Their reception is passively hostile, and they quickly figure out what’s what. It’s easy to spot, the disgruntled tone of the old guys voice and their glaring looks are blatantly obvious. They wait to pounce on any little safety infraction and then act with unnecessary aggression. It’s beyond embarrassing.
It’s not easily addressed without making enemies (which I don’t care about) and it’s darn near impossible to gain ground dealing with a pigheaded majority.
So all you rednecked old timers out there pull your head out of your ***es (edited, poor choice of language, my apologies) so we can try to get memberships up and make shooting enjoyable again. Accept the fact that all of Canada has changed, not just the big cities, and like it or not the future of shotgun sports depends on including everyone.

Ah, the old boys club. Its not easy to do but change comes from within. A similar problem at my club not long ago resulted in a complaint and a 3 month suspension of the bigot member. I've seen younger members treated badly by some of these old farts regardless of their race. Some of these old guys like to tell you they have been a member there since dirt was new and they "built" the club/range.

That’s the ####z, I know I often have my blinders on and miss a lot of cues. My wife, who was born here but parents immigrated from China, picks up on dirty looks and subtle remarks. I got a little taste of it finally when we took a trip to San Francisco and walked around Chinatown, then I was getting the dirty looks as the Lo Fan guy with her. My point being that it doesn’t take much from people with racist attitudes for others to feel it.

I don’t know if your club has members meetings but it would be worth it to bring up, just even to say that new members should be welcomed if the club expects any long term sustainability of the sport. And new people will be nervous and sometimes less than perfect in their safety rules so the experienced members should be coaches and not hostile, overbearing jerks ready to pounce on people. Safety is important but close monitoring and calm direction works better and doesn’t get the newcomers all jacked up.

Consider bringing it up at a meeting, if you think it would be better received you don’t have to go hard on the racist angle either, just the fair treatment of prospective new members. We were all noobs at one time and the learning never stops.
 
I think you’re probably guilty of the same complaints levelled against others. Racists come in all genders, ethnicities and ages. Painting everyone in a category with the same brush is plain wrong. Wishing people an early death is deplorable. Stand up to individual behaviour that is wrong, don’t show yourself as being equally abhorrent.

OP - Rather than complain to the internet, maybe you should consider volunteering to be one of the range organizers. Having some new blood may change the atmosphere - it did at our club. The unfortunate fact is that the majority of the work done on a shotgun range (and it is substantial) is done by old white men - only because nobody else will do it.

Is about my experience - was like four of us showed up to pick rocks and drill fence post holess - and we did it - got the place "approved" and all that paper work as well - and then nothing but "#####ing" from subsequent "members". Kinda soured me about volunteering to get something done - small town Saskatchewan - 1970's - sound's like not much has changed out in the "big world"...

BUT - sort of taught me - if you need / want something to exist - get off butt and do it / build it - was nothing going to happen, if relying on someone else to do it ... Nothing is "free", whether you are from New Delhi, Taiwan or Kindersley.

Is perhaps bizarre, but I happen to respect the thoughts/ opinions from people who built it, versus people who later bought membership and think they are equal - with no equivalent contribution beyond the membership, that we all already had.

SO NEAR TORONTO A DECADE BACK A CLUB WOULD NOT LET women BE VOTING MENBERS BUT THEY COULD COOK AND CLEAN AND WORK THERE BUTTS OFF.
The old boys would hire a ambulance to wheel them into the club meeting to vote women down as members.
Gods gift arrived and they went to there reward, NOW women are voting members.
 
The only way to improve it, is to put in the work. Being a gen x, I only discriminate against lazy entitled people. I’m not saying you or minorities are lazy and entitled at all, but as most older guys will say, young people (new blood) in general are viewed as lazy and entitled. Unfortunately, it’s just the way it is. Physical labor was a lot more physical 30-40-50 years ago and that’s what our parents and grandparents respect. It isn’t anything new either.
A lot of the older generation still consider the cbc as real news too.

Well..well..not much good to say about such a nasty post that is racist to the core.
You don’t like that Club ? Just move on. Find another one or take on Golf or other sport.
One thing is sure..I would not like to have a guy like you at a Club I am a member at.

I got a red neck today while shooting the doubles and cap events at EGC. Combine that with my hair starting to grey and I almost resemble(proudly) the OP's statement though I didn't give any of the Asian and Indian shooters(both types) any dirty stares today.
