Freaking rednecked old timers

I actually disagree. Keeping the thread up and dispelling untruth is exactly what we need. The worst thing that can be done when an accusation is levelled that is untrue is to turn the other way, ignore it or bury it. It's no different than the OIC - lots of people, even gunowners on this site think that any politician committing to repealing the OIC is performing political career suicide. I respectfully disagree and think whenever something is put forth that is devoid of foundational truth, it needs to be confronted, as uncomfortable as the subsequent conversation may be.

So for someone here to suggest that clubs are run by racist old Caucasian guys...even as a visible minority gun owner here, that greatly offends me to hear this accusation levelled because I have seen nothing of the sort, and I'm not going to just let some people malign others with unsubstantiated allegations. Words matter and character matters. I see this happening far too often in today's society with people trying to character assassin others. Not gonna stand by and watch others get slandered with accusations that have no merit.

Oldtimers and rednecks are tops in my book. Salt of the earth.

Yup, I find the young guys that dislike the the older gents are really just jealous of their free time , money, paid off houses, no debt, big pensions, while they are all stuck mortgaged to the max, no pension plans, #####y wife, whiny kids, leased cars and monthly payments for everything they have.

I feel personally attacked.

Money, what money? Mean living off their maybe 1500$ a month old age pension? Alot old people I know still have #####y wife, whiney kids, some still have car payments.

My father is 64 and just bought a EV, still had a mortgage, and never gonna retire.

Yeah, I agree, growing older isn't the pie in the sky it once was. Many jobs don't have pensions anymore (unless you work for government), and if you go through divorce, it can set you back 20 years or more financially. Add to that inflation and cost of living and such...

I am on the Freedom 85 plan. The younger me expected me to retire comfortably, but life happens and lots of people experience curveballs. My Dad worked for one company all his life, and got the golden handshake, an ok pension, but now he is fighting cancer and taking a day at a time.

I am a huge proponent of good choices generally contribute to good outcomes, but even then, life can throw many unexpected twists and turns. It's not all golfing daily and travelling the world for all people who are older.

Depends on the range IMO, I've encountered both the "young punk" and "redneck oldtimers" demographic a few times.

It is using a broad brush to smear either by saying they represent all shooters of their age/race.

No offense to the youths. But they don't have the best spending habits. Many complain about costs of living. But they want to live down town and have the convenience. But don't have issues buying 100$ Yoga Pants, 1000$ Iphones, 300$ boots, drink craft beer, and eat at these "hipster" restaurants that normally cost just as much as The Keg. I think many have their priorities mixed up.

My wife is 5 years younger than me, and her friends go on how lucky we are. I only bought a 92K house, and my mortgage is less than what I was paying for my apartment in the city. Then again, I moved out to the country, since there was the option of working from home.

I guess it depends... at the various club I've been to, I was always under the impression that sport shooters were the most diverse and inclusive group
- I've shot with folks from just about every religions under the sun... and we all had fun.
- I've shot with people from all ethnicity... and we all had.
- Different economic, from barely making ends meet to folks with too much $... and we all had fun.
- Different education, from the individual who didn't make to high-school to the university teacher... and we all had fun.
- Different ###ual orientation? Not sure about all the current acronyms, but we had a number of straight/###/lesbian shooters... and we all had fun (at the range)
- Different age groups. Where else will you see 12 years mingling with 92 years old?... and we all had fun.

This thread is devolving into different, but important topics. Financial planning has now arisen. Many jobs never did have pensions. If they paid well, you stayed and hopefully looked after yourself. What colour, gender, or ethnicity, have no impact on how money will, or will not grow.

To the young guys in particular, the truth is, it has never been easy if you are stupid, (he said paraphrasing a famous cowboy actor).

For any thinking person, right from its inception, the Canada Pension plan was, and is, a Ponzi scheme. It was never funded to provide any more than a subsistence income. Long story short, you need to be paying yourself out of every paycheque you get, if you plan to live above the poverty line. Below the line is where you will be easily controlled.

A list of "spendy" options was given in a previous post. We have always had these choices to make. Do I drive a stock pickup for $50,000, or a chipped, jacked up, 4x4, 4 door diesel over $100,000? What you do now will affect what you have to spend when you retire.

Go see a financial planner and get him/her to explain compounding. Hurry, old time is still a-flying.

Yikes I've never actually been embarrassed to be a member of CGN but I just read all of this and am kinda put off. Just be a good human. If you have newbies deal with it. If you cant anymore step down from whatever position of power (lmao) u are in. If I go to a new club I'm respectful but if someone is ignorant I call them out on it. Who cares if they are a somebody at that club. People dont get punched in the face often enough in 2022 if they did no one would be ignorant which seems to be the normal now. If your the new guy dont be shy if somebody is whining about something minor laugh in thier face and say ok dad please dont ground me. If bullies know u dont give a f they usually buddy up to thier side kick that does nothing but agrees with them. Oh and this is not an age thing 30 50 70 Karen's are gonna be Karen's. Remember when this site used to be fun?

Yes because that is really what you want at a gun club is a confrontation. Called being the better person and walking away. Assaulting someone and punching them for being ignorant isn't the answer.

20 pages of BS in this post.

3 replies to my post about favourite trap loads.

I thought favourite trap loads would have more enthusiasm and replies than this post. I’m surprised you guys gave the OP a second thought.

I find this painful to read but to each his own. :) Divorce is a valid point.
Freedom 52 and no pension. You take the money that would buy the pension and invest wisely while getting income tax rebates which help to pay off the mortgage. There are now TFSA's that I never had. An additional opportunity to earn tax-free. Would have liked that myself. I know everybody can't do freedom 52 and I guess the main reason I did it showed up a year later with a heart attack. Anyway $toRRSP-$from tax rebate to mortgage, $ to TFSA. Buy used vehicles when you need to. Do not buy the most $ house, Do not fall for keeping up with the Joneses and redoing the kitchen every 5 years. On and ON.

Agree. Not to mention it is a new kind of stupid assaulting and punching someone any time in 2022 let alone one holding a gun at a gun club . Man what is wrong with people today and we wonder why there is issues at clubs. Perfect example and no club needs members who think like this
Yes sir call them out and one may get a lot more than one bargained for and if lucky might just wear the gun stock between their eyes
Unreal imagine the fun the press would have with that a confrontation at a gun club.

Maybe came out wrong I wasn't saying punch someone. I was saying that people have zero consequence for being ignorant in our non confrontational 2022 society. Hence why people are much more ignorant and rude.
P.s. 3macs1 is a shotgun information legend

Welcome to the age of the internet and social media. Its not just a 2022 thing, but been going on for a couple decades. I had a few unhinged gunnuts tell me to kill myself. Sad thing is, many get away as they hide behind a username and a VPN, with Police unable to do nothing. Most they get is a slap, and banned account.. But they come back.

walking away is exactly what you guys said all the new people are doing. Aswell walking away from ignorant people only compounds thier ####ty behavior and serves as conformation that they are just in such actions
