Freds's M1A Stocks and Duty Fees?

So i can get any stock from the US, if its not an assualt rifle, through regular mail?. Am i understanding this correctly?. I must be misunderstanding the laws

No, you need a export permit from the US for all gun parts.
What type of paperwork you have to do to get it out of the u.s. depends on the parts.
If you wanted a AGOG T101 or a Sage m14 stocks then you need to do the ITAR and BAFTA papers.
If its a wood stock for a savage 110 then its alot easyer.

I had a M14 (I mean M1A) USGI fiberglass stock come about ten days ago. It was in really nice condition, including the metal hardware. The free black hand guard that came with it was a bit chewed up but still serviceable however I already have a really nice brown one so it doesn't matter. $60 US plus shipping and GST.

These stocks were prettied up and used for years by Springfield on the M1a. M1A parts are still able to be shipped without a permit if under $100 and not one of the critical components such as the receiver, barrel, etc. The identical part coming directly off of a M14 is prohibited for export without a permit. Seems that some US laws make just as much sense as many of ours.

Stuck in an order for a USGI Fiberglass Stock on June 11th and received the parcel yesterday afternoon. Got stuck with the UPS brokerage fee as I didn't specify shipping with USPS. Had a surprise when I opened the parcel as there was a free M14 multi tool included.

I guess Fred's can be hit and miss. I may have been lucky but I am pleased with the service I received. I kept the monetary value of my order low just in case anything went wrong, this may be a useful idea for those of you wishing to order from Fred's but are put off by previous problems.
 
What does Fred charge for shipping via US Post to Canada? I think I'll ask for US Post shipping.

Tenexx- what did UPS charge for shipping, and was the brokerage fee something like $25 on top of the shipping?

I'd like to order two stocks, but I may have to do it under two seperate orders to keep it under $100.

I ordered 3 stocks, cleaning kit, sling, 2 usgi hangguards. Well over 100 usd, got the items to my door no problems, NO duties NO UPS fees just the s/h fee from freds. This was a couple months ago, glad to see that freds isnt screwing Cdns anymore.
 
At this point I have no idea what they can or can't export without a permit but the point is you are not the exporter so you need no permits. The exporter needs the permit and it is up to him to comply with the required laws. If he gets his butt (ha, ha) in trouble that is up to him. The most you will lose is your order and remember that tools are not gun parts. We import rifle actions from New Zealand and there is no import duty, just the usual taxes and of course NZ is not involved in NAFTA. We work with a number of US manufacturers and they are very aware of export regs with regard to actins and rifles and they even admit the laws are easier to deal with in Canada!!! The word is that some of the US regs have changed and perhaps the one that may know best about exports may be Brownells, or not if you don't like what you hear.

UPS charged $30US for shipping and $42 Canadian for brokerage, the combined cost equals the price of the order I placed with Fred's. It was my own fault for nor remembering to ask for USPS shipping. I am very happy with what I got and plan to order a spare fiberglass stock "just in case".

Thanks for the info.....yeah, I always try and have everything shipped by US Post due to those UPS brokerage fees. US Post did loose one of my parcels lately (automotive part at $200 USD). Luckily it was insured but it is taking awhile to get the claim processed.
 
Don't get stuck with UPS fees. Tell them you will clear the goods at the nearest customs office yourself (usually at the airport). I do this all the time.

The stock arrived yesterday by UPS who wanted $41.67

The stock is in good shape however, the total cost was more than I expected.

list price $60.00 US - price at my door $131.67 Canadian. :confused:
