I made some lead shot. It’s not perfect but it looks pretty good.

If you live near north bay Ontario and reload shot shells I will give you a few pounds to load up and try. 7.5-8.5 shot size.

All I ask is you either pattern it or report back as to how it worked for you. Im trying to decide whether it s worth continuing on this shot making expedition.

I don’t think it’s worth shipping so local to north bay only.

Too bad I'm not closer or I'd come and get some.

I want to try shot making too. The russian youtube videos are addictive...

It would be great if you could talk about your setup put some pictures in.
 
I made shot when my family shot Trap and Sporting Clays. At that time we went through about 30 bags a year. The only way to afford it was to make my own. It was not round and could not compare with commercial hard round shot for nice patterns and shooting handicap from the 27 yard line. But, sieve out the nuggets and scrap for re melt, load everything else that comes out of the machine. Use full choke from the 16 yard line and it kills targets just as good as $55 a bag hard round shot.
 
I’m getting better. What I get now is really close to factory. But still contains a bit of slightly egg shaped stuff. Just barely out of round.

I think I’m happy with it but offer still stands for anyone wanting to try some.
 
I am told that the old fashioned way to quickly sort out the good from the bad was to dribble the cold shot down a short incline.

The round ones ball-roll straight down along the ramp into the “good” bucket. The egg-shaped ones cone-roll in a curve and fall off either side of the ramp into the “try again” tray.

I’ve never tried it myself, but it seems easy enough to rig up.

I have tried that with a pane of glass. It works but is very time consuming.

I have patterned it a few times now at 20 yard and 30 yards. Maybe its just my wishful thinking but it looks very good.
