Well after spending a couple of weeks deciding which revolver to purchase, and reading a great deal, and talking to different people, about a few different guns,I finally decided on a Freedom Arms 97 in 357.I placed the order today,so now it's 12 weeks waiting for the gun to be built, then another month or more waiting for the import papers to be processed, and Prophet River to get the gun into Canada then to me.

Well that should be a nice rig! Congrats! Can you load your rounds any hotter with them, to a regular revolver? I here they are very well built!

There is data available to load the much heavier built model 83 to much higher velocities, but those loads are not to be used in the model 97.I will mostly be using 38 specials anyways.

I just bought a FA 97 too...

I just ordered a FA 97 too:)

357 mag
5.5" barrel
action job
OT screw
green fiber front site and a V notch rear site

Must be an alberta thing...

Is cleaning the only issue with using the 38s. I know you can shoot 38s in every other 357 mag revolver so I had wondered why Freedom Arms had different cylinders. If it's just a cleaning issue I should shoot some 45 Long Colt in my 454 Casull, I'd certainly shoot it more.

The people at Freedom Arms advised me that fouling accumulated in the chamber while shooting 38 specials, can cause extreme pressure spikes if you start shooting 357 mags.To be safe, they recommend a separate 38 special cylinder. The dealer that I ordered through told me that it is actually quite common for FA owners to shoot 38specials in 357s and he hasn't heard of any issues at all.

With two members of the same club both ordering FA at the same time,we might be the one of the very few clubs in Canada with more than one FA owner.

Thanks for the information stubblejumper, sounds like you've picked a very nice gun. Clay is great for the imports too.

Providing you brush out the cylinders every cleaning you should be fine. I have never had any issue with pressure from fouling in the cylinder after shooting .38's from a .357.

Mind you I clean after every shoot.

I always clean my guns after every shooting session,so I don't expect any problems. It sounds like the dealer and Freedom Arms are on the ball,as we already have the serial numbers for both of our model 97s.The expected completion of built date is June 10,so with a headstart on the paperwork,we might have our guns for my 50th birthday in late July.

Congrats on the Freedoms Arms purchase... Awesome gun for sure.
On the 38sp - 357mag topic, I have a Ruger Blackhawk and I've never had any problem interchanging. I'll shoot a bunch of each every time out and often mix and match in the same cyinder just for the fun of the comparison. Gone through a few thousand rounds so far with no trouble, so I wouldn't think the FA would be any different.

There are no Canadian dealers for Freedom Arms,so we ordered our guns through a U.S. dealer called Taylor's Trading Post.Scott the owner was great to deal with. They are apparently the largest Freedom Arms dealer, according to the Freedom Arms rep,so our guns may get built a little sooner than they would if ordered from a smaller dealer.Clay at Prophet River is handling the paperwork to export the guns out of the USA and import them into Canada.
