freedom arms revolvers???

While I don't have any personal experience with the Freedom Arms guns, I have considered purchasing one from time to time, but the $3K+ price tag seems to get in the way for a gun that might see some hard use. Still the price is in line with what you might expect to pay for a full-blown custom revolver based on a Ruger SA from Bowen Classic Arms. I'm still intrigued with the .500 Wyoming cartridge and when combined with a high quality revolver of normal size, it's a pretty strong pull for me. I don't think you would be disappointed in the quality of the gun, it would be leaps and bounds ahead of an off-the-shelf Blackhawk.

The fit and finnish on the freedom arms revolver is not surpassed by any other make.
Spin a ruger and spin a freedom and you'll see the the difference. Its like comparing a formula 1 car to a K car. They're worth every penny and hold their value well.
 
There is a very nice one in the EE, in 454 Casull if I remember correctly.

I picked up a S&W from the seller recently, he's easy to deal with and straight up fella.

Shot a Friends 454 Casull with Full house loads...........I still have nightmares from the recoil:redface:

He's got a few of them...the one we shot was a "Premiere Grade" or something like that...I remember him saying it had a Carbide forcing cone or ???

At any rate without question the finest Revolver I've ever held. FWIW I've owned quite a few ruger revolvers, vaqueros, blackhawks, etc.

The Rugers don't even come close to Freedom arms IMO.......but then niether does the price tag;)
 
I am in the market for a revolver myself,and was leaning towards a double action 357,however,now you have me considering a model 97 in 357mag.It's not like I would ever use a revolver in double action mode anyways,so why not just go with a single action.And it would be simpler and more durable than the double action that I was considering.It's a shame that there are no Canadian dealers listed.
 
I should jump in here and tell you guys I've got one for sale on the EE, I think pageophile was referring to it. It's like new and a really nice gun but without an ATC I'm finding it a bit overkill for paper targets and such. It's a Premier Grade and as nice a gun as I've seen.
 
Matt,did you buy your gun in Canada,or did you have to have it imported.Your gun looks great,but as you say,it's overkill for paper targets.A 357 mag with the optional 38special cylinder would be much more suited to my uses.
 
I bought it on the EE here a while back. I just had to try one. It is as good as everyone says.

I have always wanted one of the new ones in .44mag but the only one I could ever afford is the little .22

I owned a Premier Grade for several years. It operates like a Swiss watch.
Very tight timing and chambering. It is like shooting a precision rifle with Match chambering. You won't get away with lousy crimping or high primers.
The grip shape is sort of a combination between a Bisley or SBH.
My only slightly unfavorable comment is from the long hammer travel to ####.
Trigger pull was pretty good.
Accuracy was superb. Much nicer to shoot than a bloody TC. I had one in 45-70 and this was the worst SOB for felt recoil in the hand palm.

I had a Ruger Bisley, stainless, 5 1/2" barrel in .45Colt for a few years, nice enough gun for the price but sold it. Shortly afterwards I came across a good deal on a Freedom 1997 in .45Colt, 4 1/2" barrel. Quality was top notch, literally nothing to complain about on it. A little more than twice the price I paid for the Bisley but I have absolutely no regrets. I haven't held a 83, but the 97 is a 5 shot with a scaled down frame, very very nice size, not like the bulky 6 shots. I've shot some 300gr. at an estimated 1200fps, recoil is stout but manageable for a small gun, grip is very comfortable. Apparently Freedom's get an approx. 150fps extra due to the tight cylinder to barrel fit.

If you're looking at a Freedom check out the 97, not a .454 but in the smaller package it feels like it. Ross Seyfried said it best, "They're like the best quality Swiss watches and bank vaults melted into one".
