Freedom Arms???

Haven't fired one. Had the opportunity to compare it side by side with a Ruger. It is an extremely well made gun and those who own them like them.

Ross Seyfried said they are like the best of Swiss vaults and watches melted down into a gun.

anybody ever owned or fired one?

who sells them in canada?
I have one - Imported back before lots of permits were required.
454 7" Premium Grade. If you can get one, GET IT - it is one of the nicest guns I've ever seen or felt.
Like Gunslinger quoted; the lockwork is like a clock.

I hear the backorder is like a year from FA.

Sorry, don't know if anyone sells them here now.
You might want to see an importer to bring one from the US.

We import from Freedom Arms. However the wait is about 6 months.

Noted. Thanks! I get a request every couple of months (due to similarities in name) and I didn't know you had them JR - from now on - I'll send them your way...

I love my FA 83 in .454 , I have a 4x eer leupold on it. But will transplant it on my s&w 500. Recommend a Pachmeyer grip though, especially for full house loads, ie I can get a 350gr gas check pill going 1850 fps. But its finicky to reload for, and easy to develop the horride flinch:p Everything must be bang on due to the tight tolerances. Good luck

I've never used one or even seen one in real life but there is a thread on the "cast boolits" website, that has alot of negative things to say about these revolvers, wrong throat/barrel dimensions ie: throat bigger than barrel, inconsistant chamber dimensions, etc. Not something you would expect on such an expensive gun, etc.......Just relaying what I read, don't shoot the messenger!

I read about them, especially their efforts to bridge the gap into Silhouette pistol, and while it was a few years ago, the cost of a FA was $22.50 per missed shot . . . in other words they were around $900 USD. The cost of a Production gun was in the range of the S&W, Ruger, and Dan Wesson revolvers.

what? sounds like sour grapes on that web site, my Premier Grade 83 is built like a Rolls Royce. Super tight and accurate. With over 500 full house loads, still tight as... , well you know the cliche. Workmanship, first rate. Although customer service was lacking when I call to order a replacement front sight. Don't like to deal with Canadians, because of the paperwork etc. The guy was kind of surprised that I owned one, even more surprised Canadians had guns. Yanks:p I forgot to tighten the hex screw and the sight flew off under recoil. Never did find it again. My S&W 500, on the other hand built like a Briggs and Stratton, in comparison.

Funny, when the Premier grade first came in, I got a Field grade too. I found the pachmayer grips nastier than the cowboy wood stocks; the wood grips would let the gun roll and take some recoil off, while the pachmayer just sent the recoil straight into my hand.

i had the premier grade 454 in a 4 3/4barrel very nice gun , nasty recoil in full power, i magna ported it, that slowed it down, i would buy a .45 colt today not the .454 also i would buy the 6 inch barrel ,,, wade

I have a Model 83 premier grade in 454 Casull with the 7.5" bbl. I absolutely love this gun. There is no end play in the cylinder and to quote the previous posters the lockwork is like a Swiss watch. I would love to own one in 475 Linebaugh with the Octagon bbl.

Can't you simply shoot .45 Colt out of the .454 Casull?

Mine in .454 has saved my butt more than once, best money I ever spent on life insurance! If there was better quality and reliability in something else, I'd have it! And on this basis I since picked up up two more, in .357 and .44!

Life is too short already to pack an unreliable gun!

Exactly, I have hunted and shot silhouette with one since 89, best revolver I have ever seen. I lived in the US for a few years and it got a lot more use than it does these days. They are an incredible revolver though and gap is normally around .002" , real tight. Line bored also so straight to barrel, they often shoot groups normally seen in good rifles.
Expensive, but worth it in my opinon. The wait has been bad for a new one for some time. My buddy bought one in 91 and had to wait 6 months. They are in about every shop in Alaska, that seems to be where they are really appreciated.
I have had the same results with loads as listed above. You can move a 350 hard bullet at just past 1750fps in an FA Casull. Also the .45 Colt cylinder is recommended if you are going to shoot them in it mostly because of any buildup left by the ammo in the longer chamber may cause trouble when you put .454s in the next time. The .454 Chambers are tighter too than their .45 Colt chambers as there is more variation in factory loads in .45 Colt. Or at least that was the case when I got mine with the extra cylinder almost 20 years ago.
