Freezer organization

Are you trying to insert a butchered moose, or simply trying to organize the usual assortment of freezer surprises? I work for a lady who really has this down. 1. She has a diagram showing the cross-section of her freezer. This diagram is attached to the underside of the door (visible when you open it up).

2. Foods are arranged according to frequency of usage (so you're not digging for frequently used items). 3.

3.Place multiples of the same thing in small cardboard boxes. So, if you want a package of hamburger, you first see where it is on the diagram- then go to the open box to retrieve it.

4. Use up what you've got before racing to the butcher for more. No more mysterious packages of freezer burnt ribs from 1994 that you had no idea even existed. You'll spend less and food will taste better.

5. Lastly, keep an inventory list next to the diagram so that you have a running tally of what's running low. That way you can watch for sales on things you're running low on.

6. Remember to keep freezer plugged in. A neighbor of mine unplugged the wrong plug and discovered his thawed and smelling moose meat a week later (freezer was in garage; it was plus 30)....

I have 2 cardboard boxes in the middle of mine for moose. Pork and chicken goes on each side.

New moose/deer goes in the bottom of the boxes, last year's goes on top to get used first.

Bread, butter, berries and anything else goes in another freezer.

I used some large sections of cardboard to partition mine. One section for fish and game, one for domestic farm meats and one for frozen veggies. Works great until the wifey takes a trip to Costco and dumps everything on top.

I have a separate game freezer.. The basket holds partridge and rabbits well labelled ans well as the prime deer cuts (backstrap and tenderloin)... In the belly of the freezer is deer sausage in cardboard box, as well as a box for turkeys..m

All my game goes in one freezer. The reason I put fish in the other one is because there's never enough room!

Kinda funny, my son was mostly raised on moose and deer and he prefers it to beef. I do like a nicely grilled beef rib steak from time to time. Deer steak 's my favorite though.

When this year's moose gets back from the butcher I'll post a pic of how to pack a freezer!

Boxes, bags and partitions in both freezers. My wife does a major sort/unpack twice a year to keep us on track. Nothing wasted ever and grocery store food is probably only 33% of our intake so it takes some work.
The other poster who talked about the 'map' of the freezer is a nice step up from our system and I might adopt it.
