French Service Revolver in the EE

I noticed this FS ad from boobytrapped:

French Service Revolver with a date of Mfg prior to 1893 in V.Good cond. It is SA/DA and 6 shots of some sort of a .30 Cal. Mfg by Acier Fondu with a s/n of 98XX.

Acier Fondu sounds to me like the material its made from, not a manufacturers name. Which is correct?

Acier Foundu has something to do with the steel mix.
Steel fused with the Initals cc interlaced
Clement Lucien had something to do with it ive also seen Krupps of Essen Prusse name involved so my guess its good steel.
Depending on the maker of course.

Thats right its melted ingot cast steel basicly.

But Krupp would only use the best Quality as well as Clement.

The Littleguns belgian web site has lotsa info on this kinda thing with some Belgian guns they had Acier Fondu stamped on them to as well as some french guns

FWIW.

Acier Fondu = Cast Steel.

Fer Fondu = Cast Iron.

Thanks guys, thats pretty much what I thought it was. I did some research and saw quite a few pitols of the era, of various belgian and french makes etc.. had that marking.

 

[Pre-1898]

Some other small shop making the French 1892 ( Not manufacture St Etienne) was marking Acier Fondu on their guns If I recall these gun probably as a lanyard ring and mount stamped here and there on the frame and major parts. The name of the Company was Something (Not sure) ________and Gyrol also makers of the 1892 all the info available in the French book ( Le 1892 revolver de la revanche)

Many other French made revolver was bearing the marking: Acier Fondu
