This french soldier, on a recent combat patrol in Paris against terrorist, is also completely unarmed, since his ammo pouches also are empty....

He's got a round in the chamber for the traditional suicide that follows the surrender...

BTW, the French Army has a new flag: A white cross on a white background....

He doesn't need ammunition because he is not "on a ... combat patrol against ... terrorists". He is on a non combat patrol for tourists.

His superior officer told me not to take the picture, but this soldier did not mind at all I took a picture of him, while his superior officer was chasing some political activists, collecting signatures. The political activists also completely ignored the french army officers request to stop collecting signatures :)

Yeah, we all Know about the "surrender". In six weeks in 1940 the Frech took 3 times the casualties of Canada in 6 years or 1/4 the casualties of the US in 4 years.

Maybe he has 10 rounds in a plastic sandwich bag stuffed into his pocket like the stupid CF douche officers made us carry whenever we went on "armed patrols" on UN missions.

You have no f'ing idea what you're talking about... While in Afghanistan I saw many French soldiers along with other nations that no one even hears about... Get your head out of your ass and I suggest you read a little bit more about WW1/WW2 and the current war in Afghanistan.

Unless you have ever served YOUR country or an other I suggest you keep comments like these to yourself...

I actually recall reading about French soldiers in the '60's. They apparently had some badass troops. Their gov't has been rather hesitant lately; but the US claimed the same of Canada when we opted out of going to the Iraqi show.
But it's sure not worth arguing about.

France does get laughed at a lot, but you're only as good as your leaders. The Maginot line? Come on. And I've heard stories about soldiers back then having a sealed package of 5 rounds for every 2 men, and they got in BIG trouble if they opened it. France was essentially broke, and drained of manpower thanks to Napoleon and WW1. They never had much of a chance.

Maybe there reservist? But thats really ridiculous to have soldiers out there patroling the streets without any ammo... Whenever we go out on training, where a whole platoon armed with automatic weapons but no ammo... One bad guy with a 6 shooter could rob us and take off with 40+ rifles, 10 machine-guns...

If 40 soldiers allowed a guy with only six shots to rob them then they shouldn't be in the army.

and they must at least have one mag on them... maybe its not in their ammo pouches, its all about personnal preference where you would put your mag. I've seen armed french soldiers at airports with a mag on their FAMAS, the readiness level is probably just different outside...
