Freshly assembled 8" build (10/22, Dlask, Boyds and Tech-Sights.)

Got back from a rushed range trip today; by rushed I mean I showed up at the second to last cease-fire.

Anyway, I'm shooting bulk ammo - Federal Champion 36gr HP ammo from a couple sandbags off of a block of wood. I am also shooting quickly at about 1 to 2rnds per second.
***Point Of Aim is the same on all targets, the front post is half covering the center of the target (or what I could make up as the target)***

I sighted in for 50m with the '0-2' aperture and this is what I ended the day with:

Then for fun, not even expecting to group... I shot at 2 separate 100m targets I was using for slugs.

This is with the '0-2' aperture:

This is with the 'unmarked' aperture:

I am very happy with this rifle.

Front sight is held on only with red-loctite.

I know I know... I was very skeptical as well.
However, I can assure you that it is on tight. There is no way it is ever coming off. If you were to strike it with a hammer, you'd break the post before it twisted.

Very cool little gun. How is the front sight mounted? Is it on a threaded-on extension of some sort?

Yes... the Dlask 8" is threaded to 1/2" X 28 TPI.

Red Loc-Tite will hold very well, as long as it is allowed to cure fully before it is handled, banged around or fired excessively.

I was thinking that if you installed the front base and slapped on Aimpoint T1 it'll look bad ass. Lol. And may even cowitness well set up like that.

;)

using loctight is normal for fastening parts together, machinists often use this method on close tolerance parts

Such an awesome Idea... I don't have an aimpoint, but I am going to chop the OEM base short and mount it. :)

Thanks!

Jt Trouble.

I LOVE that stock!!! thats the EXACT one i want!

Now for my opinion on these ultra short 8" barreled builds. WHAT the 'Ell are guys thinking!? I mean i just can't understand the whole appeal of building a rifle that doesnt make any sense? Is it just the extreme "other way " thinking that's going on here? It looks like someone took a hacksaw to an otherwise awesome build! The RCMP says an overall length should be 26" and guys take it too literally? I'm thinking with all these builds catching on it won't be long and they'll rewrite the rule..... jmho.

your guys builds would be sooo sweet if you just added another 8" to the front ends!

i didn't cared much of a shorty until i hiked my regular 10/22 carbine off trail in the wood. that thing was a pain.. getting stuck in every trees.. i had lost a lot of mobility.

which bring me to .. i need a takedown or something smaller.. 26 inch fit perfectly on the side of my pack.. and its ready to fire quicker, can have a bull barrel, dont have to re-assemble it... and there is no takedown availability around where i live.

which bring me to.. create a clone of those G37/hoytcannon and become my backpacking gun.

I have my 10-22 to start my SBR build.

My thoughts are we cant carry a handgun in the woods so carry the shortest rifle/shotgun possible.

A super short 10-22 can be attached to most packs and is easily carried. If needed it could provide food to survive or just plain fun if a suitable spot to target shoot is located.

Besides short guns are more fun to shoot ;)
