Fricken LOVE my 6BR!

The 6BR is a fairly straight walled case. It would be tough to make an "improved" version and if you did it would offer very little in the way of improvement. What do you think the 6BR is a variant of?

I was just curious is is all.. It looks to me like 6BR Norma originated from 6BR Remington which is a necked down .308x1.5 Barnes, which is a shortened and blown out .308 Win. While 6BR is fairly straight, 6 Dasher represents qualities more conducive to an "improved" design. It also seems all improved 6BR cases are achievable using the same parent case.

Like I said, wasn't meaning to start an argument but always want to learn about the "why".

But for the most part those are longer cases than the 6BR which must be made by cutting down something else.

The wildcats all use the BR case and are fireformed to the chamber. they end up a little shorter after fireforming. the gain is around 3 to 4 grains of case volume.
fwiw I've had my 6-dasher out to 1450 yds still on paper. at 48 minutes my scope was topped out or I would have tried it at 1600.

Neck and shoulder.

Most popular variant is the Dasher, and even still not enough case to push the 115's enough to make an advantage. I have seen it tried.

Love to hear how you make out there too.

Have a 30br prefit sitting. Not sure if I will have time to play with it but a chambering that has always intrigued me.

I expect you will see very nice results too.

In 2000 Bisley hosted a big shoot for both TR and Class. My wife and I were involved with both. I was on a TR team. She was a team officer, but shot FClass (with a 6.5-284). I think she finished 4th in the Aggregate.

The FClass winner was a Canadian shooting a 6BR. I think he used 105 Sierra and a dose of Varget. I was shocked that such a small cartridge was credible at 1000 yards.

I came home and built a 6BR rifle for myself. Used a unchambered Shilen barrel that I had on hand. Not sure of the twist, but it won't handle 105 g Sierra MK. The rifle is a disappointment. It won't group as good as 1 MOA with any bullet.

I've done a few on 8 twists and they are a breeze to make run. I also have a BRX on a 7 twist, 105 @ 3175. My go to gopher rig is a 6 BR on a 13 twist... They are all fun to play with.

Don't count out Savage rifles, and I don't consider myself a good competitive shooter. Well actually, I dont compete.
I forgot to write the powder charge. 28.3gr Varget

with 105 Hybrids, there is no reason to use 115's. With a good pipe and a good driver, it is a laser out to 1000 yards and is even fun to shoot beyond that. There just is not a more precise centerfire cartridge - in any caliber - with the exception of the short range 6PPC
