Friggin Canadian Tire

In some cases I have saved up tp $10 a box on ammo at Can-Tire over the small shops.Every buck counts now a day.They usually have specials on 30-30,308,and30.06 at some point in the year.Usually last yrs stock.I dont care If the staff are no minds because I know what I want.Its just the lack of selection that bites my arse.
 
What are they afraid you will do?

Read my post about Tylenol and think about it... It's not beacause you're going to pull out a shotgun from under your trench coat and load -up with ammo you couldn't get anywhere else...
Sorry, but with the 4 trips that involved your time and gas, and you still don't have your ammo, I don't see your point.

Point is I can make four trips and still come out ahead on the deal because crappy tire is selling a box of shotgun shells for 8.5 that my two local gun shops want 15 for...
I want to support my local small businesses, but there is a point where it is lunacy to pay the prices they ask when compared to other retailers.
 
I like to support the local gun shop but cripes man, Winchester Supreme 168 grain Balistic Tips are only 24.00 a box at our local Walmart!!! Just bought a Ruger Stainless in 06 from the local guy so i won't feel guilty buying my ammo at Wally World for a bit longer!!:D

...........three gas stations in town also carry ammo!!:D Gas, wings and ammo in one stop!!
 
I know it sounds like BS, but one Walmart guy who's always there when I go is a lot friendlier than most of the SIR guys. The same box of shells is $12 at Walmart, and $16 at SIR.
 
You like cheap ammo? With all that $$$ you saved, buy some reloading gear. Lee kits are around $160 or less, how many boxes of ammo do you have to buy from Cambodian Tire to save that much?

I'm only half serious, but I do agree with the point that supporting local gun shops is better than supporting a big box franchise. The only reason they have lower prices on ammo is because they have greater purchasing power, because they're a big box franchise with big box dollars!! They make up for the lower prices with higher sales volumes, something a small gun shop can't compete with. They also have pizza-faced kids who make $9/hr and can't tell the difference between a box of .22LR and .22WMR, or .30-06 and .308, or 12 gauge trap loads and 12 guage slugs! That's enough reason to get into reloading right there.

I don't have a problem with saving a couple $'s, but I'd rather do it without selling out to corporate greed. Reloading is the answer. It allows you to support a local gunshop, while saving the same amount of nickels as you would if you bought from Wally World or Cambodian Tire. Think about it.

Stick with a gunshop that makes it's liveing on guns and gun related stuff. Preferrably a full service shop. I REFUSE to shop at that store talk about getting hosed on the prices!!! That goes for the ammo and guns on hand, mind you i walked up to the till and paid for my handgun ammo without a locked bag or having to give me my PAL#

The reason Canadian Tire started doing the ammo escort was because several yeasrs ago in Winnipeg, a man walked into a Canadian Tire store at the corner of Notre Dame avenue and Isabel street, asked to see a 12 gauge shotgun, and when it was handed to him, he grabbed a box of shells that was sitting on the counter, removed one, loaded the gun, and blew his brains out right in the store. The clerk was hit with the spray.

Okay, but how can they prevent me having a shell in my pocket when I go into the store? They can't. If someone wants to kill themselves/someone else, there is very little you can do to stop them.

And considering MOST of the CT stores don't sell guns anymore, it's still a stupid process.
 
I needed some gun oil, so off to the local Cambodian Tire I went. Searched up and down the gun isle, come to find out that its locked up. Had to find a staffer to open the case for me so that I could get some Hoppe's oil. That is a little overboard.

They sometimes do that just due to no place else to stock the item that makes sense (no point putting it with the fishing lures just so they don't have to lock it up kind of idea). If the guy insisted on walking it to the front for you, thats overboard.

Whitbyman, how much did it cost for shipping if you don't mind me asking?

I never said I thought it was a good idea, and I agree with you that it is stupid, I just thought i would post the reason why they do it. It's the same flawed logic that gave us a useless gun registry.

I keep an eye out at WallyWorld and Canadian Tire for clearance sales, but in Victoria it's Pullen's for me. Island Outfitters (the 7 day a week place mentioned above) gives me a pain in the arse.
 
The Canadian Tire near my house sells ammo for my firearms at a reasonable cost. However I still drive half way across the city to the outdoor store that I do business with. Like people have said, gotta give the local gunshops business.
 
i agree you guys about buying ammo from can tire. its a pain in the butt even for me to buy it. i work in the store and have taken most of the people there out shooting and they still make me do the walk to the front. only thing i buy is .22s everything else ill buy at the local shop. or wholesale sports when they open just down the street from an tire.in the spring
 
Another thing to consider is that a lot of us don't have a local gunshop. Crappy Tire & Wally World are both 2km from my house, and open til 9pm. The nearest gunshop is 120km round trip. With their business hours I can't even get there during the week.
 
There's a lot of talk about championing the small guy on this thread. What I'd like to know is how many of you practice what you preach when it comes to everyday purchases beside ammo and firearms. Probably not suitable for this thread or forum but think about it the next time your in Walmart buying you groceries, DVD,s or any other of the cheaply made low quality $hit they sell. Support the small guy everyday in every way!!
