Has anyone tried firing 5/8" marbles, with extra patching, in lieu of proper .68 lead balls from a .69 cal smooth bore musket? I fully expect range & accuracy would suffer greatly but as a novelty effort, is there danger in trying this ?
Im guessing they are going to break on firing or shortly after exiting the muzzle, with that said if they survive, they in a pinch are going to be a projectile like any, but wont be worth much for great accuracy at any decent range.
As dumb kids we fired marbles out of pipe (asinine, I'm aware) with powder gleaned from firecrackers and fireworks, could put them right through a 2x4, so while they likely weren't going proper rifle speed they'll hold together just fine at fairly high speed and upon firing. The pipe did too, thank god. Who knows... If you're really worried just do the car tire and bungee cord trick.
