I was looking for a long term protectant, and tried Birchwood Casey Barricade. It did seal and protect, but it left a dried yellow coating that i needed to remove when it came time to fire them. As a result, I have returned to conventional oils-- very light coating, and repeat applications in a couple months if the gun hasn't been used. Ballistol works good (but smells like a hobo's ass), as does Rem-Oil, Hoppes and my fave is Clenzoil.
I also have had great luck with G96. It smells like vanilla, and leaves a shiny non-oily coating.
I have all the products, since I am always willing to try something new. I have the Frog lube in both paste and liquid. The manufacturer pushed it initially as a melting paste lube for AR type firearms. I have tried the liquid for lube as well. I have NOT tried it as a long-term protectant, so I cannot speak to its effectiveness in that regard.
