Oh god. I don't know what that gun is or what (if any) its historical significance is. But as a metal worker and a firearms enthusiast, I'm deeply bothered by this. Lol

Well it started out as an M1 Garand.
With the amount of material removed from the receiver I would be a little leary of firing it.

Oh jesus, it IS a Garand... I had to put pictures of an unmolested one and that one side by side and go back and forth a bunch of times. Why bubba, why??? It's so much worse than I thought, lol.

That's a whaler's gun... Bout the same odds of surviving to retirement in that business as going over the top at Vimy. I'll give the original owner a pass on that one - in a way it's on the same level as trench art.
