The "STOP" is a really interesting long-recoil design; there are not very many in this country.

They came out in 1912 and were adopted as an official pistol by the Honved, the Army in the Hungarian part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, although they also manufactured and used the 1911/12 STEYR pistol. The STOP was much more civilised and compact, even though it did not have the walloping horsepower of the big Steyr (almost triple that of the smaller gun).

It was complex and complicated to manufacture, but it worked fine.

J.B. Wood has instructions for takedown and maintenance in one of his books. It is really worth reading, just for the info on this gun.

Long-recoil has been used on very few guns and most of them are shotguns. The Remington Model 8 (and later 81) are the only CF rifles I can think of offhand, the execrable Chauchat-Suterre-Ribeyrolle-Gladiateur LMG the only machine-gun to attain general-usage status. Browning Automatic-5 shotgun uses it also........ but VERY few pistols.

REALLY interesting piece. Look after it, friend.

Lamentably, when they show up I can't afford one.... and when I have the money, they are all hiding. Way the cookie crumbles, I guess.

Have fun.

Hope this helps.
