Front base screw interference with action threads.Source of my problems??

Okay, so was starting to re-do the bedding job, which was stuck well so I have that angle covered apparently,I figured since I am in here I might as well put a pillar in the front as well.

So, I dug out my bit and opened up the front screw hole to accept the pillar and placed the bottom metal on the check fit..............

This is how far it was out with the bottom metal seating all the way rearward in it's original inlet...

So I started to open up the stock..

Had to open it up at the front screw area as well as the front of the mag well.

I might also have to do something in the rear but Craige put a pillar in there so I may have to open it up slightly also, I'll see how much interference there is once I'm done the front. There might be enough play to have both screws clear.

I will get to that part once I correct another issue I discovered, I'll post shortly..............

KT, if it's any comfort I've gotten rid of every Vanguard II, very shortly after shooting them.

They usually shoot acceptably for a hunting rifle but I've yet to see one give "exceptional" accuracy.

My bud actually has one he bought for his son, when Wholesale Sports went out of business. It was chambered in 243Win and was shooting wandering groups as big as six inches.

He had been through this before and took a chance on the cheap WS Vanguard II. He didn't play around with it again, until he set it up in a properly bedded Boyd's laminated stock. Now, the rifle still isn't "exceptional", which I believe is what you're looking for, or you wouldn't be going to the lengths/expense you are.

That's a factory stock in your pics. It flexes, that bottomed out king screw didn't help matters.

After all that effort, I sincerely hope this rifle comes around for you. Even with that excellent quality after market barrel, don't expect miracles.

All I wanted was a reliable , consistent MOA rifle fairly light for extended hunting situations for larger animals.

The front action screw didn't bottom out, that screw is fine, it was the front scope base screw that bottomed.

That all being said, I have two other Vanguards with Boyd's that I did bed(25/06 and a .270), I could open up the barrel channel and do a quick swap at the range while shooting.

Final thing I'm doing before the rifle is shipped out.

Re-bedded the recoil lug, added a front pillar(Craige already installed in rear) , clearanced the bolt holes to ensure no pressure on screws when tightening ,will try with some factory loads , if that doesn't change will put pressure point in forestock, if that doesn't work I'll put on one of my Boyd's from another Vanguard, if that doesn't work then I am stopping for the year and it will have to be someone else's problem.

My bad, should have read closer. Hope it all works out. You deserve it after all the work you've done.

No problem sir at all.

I kinda wanted exceptional , but I’m to a point where I would accept moderate.

After this outing I’ll know for sure if it needs a professional evaluation or not.

Just sucks putting that kind of coin into a firearm to have to struggle so much.

Not sure if this is going to matter but instead of the usually 35 in/lbs for the action screws I’m doing 55 as the Weatherby site suggests 55 with their stocks with pillars when normal wood and synthetic are to be 35.

Same everything , with pressure point...

I switched out the stocks...

GMM , SGK 180 and 190 LRAB....

And again...

It's going to see someone now.I can go no further.
