As per another thread, I have a converted military M-S 6.5 x 54 I'm working on. The original front sight has disappeared so I'm looking for a ramp. Problem is, the barrel diameter at the muzzle is around 0.533" and the Williams and Marbles ramps are designed for a larger diameter. (NEGC too.) Marbles has a flat-base "shorty" ramp which I could contour but it's only 0.100" high and I'll need a medium-hight base and tall-ish blade as I'm thinking of putting a Williams WGRS peep sight on the receiver using an unused scope base hole.

I've been looking at Numrich/Gunparts and they have tons of used ramps, a few of which seem to have a smaller underside radius, or at least, appear to have enough "meat" in the base that I could take some off the bottom and recontour it, for example this remington 740/742:

I would not be worried about a slightly bigger contour if that is the only ramp you can find.

I would probably skim bed it using JB Weld, using release agent on the barrel of course.

Could you not mill the sides of the base /both sides until it fits the barrel width/diameter? then cold blue it.

I'd be inclined to make a banded ramp from barstock. Otherwise, pick a nice tall ramp and re-shape the underside to fit. The one in your pic should work fine, with some tweaking.

I recently put a set of those Rem rifle sights on an 870 shotgun barrel, let me know if you need front base height or width measurements. It’s the same as the one in the pic, I think I might have a second base that I didn’t mount and can measure as well. Pm me if you need any numbers.

Yes, that's what I was thinking, if there's enough solid stuff to cut it down a bit. The Williams ramps, OTOH, are very thin, almost sheet metal.

Making one from scratch (@ Stomp) wold be a splendid idea... if I had a milling macine. I've been thinking of getting a small one in fact, but I don't think this would be a good candidate for a beginner's project (!)

I have a couple of leads on eBay to check out as well, one of which is a banded front sight base to fit Mauser, Springfield 03 etc." Looks to be .59 dia., I'd just have to make a blade:

@Mauser98: Yes, I saw those, but $100 USD. And while I'm at it, I guess I could get one of those bespoke Rigby-style bolt-mounted peep sights that a few custom smiths make. Around $350 USD. But gorgeous! If this were a really nice sporter I might consider the NEGC but my M-S is a bit of a mongrel.
