Hey guys. Any advice on how to securely re-attach the front sight for my rifle-sighted 870 barrel? First trip out to the range and she slid right off after about 5 rounds. I figure it'll be less hassle to just fix the damned thing myself than go through Remington.

Just to be safe I've emailed Remington as well, but as I see aftermarket sights on a regular basis, I imagine it can't be that hard to fix myself.

thanks,

-Scott

Mine came loose one day and a helpful old dude at the range gave me the great tip of using a small piece of pop can between the sight and the slot to tighten it up.

I used 2 pieces, one on either side, and it wedged in perfectly.
It should take a fair bit of force and maybe a rubber mallet to get it centred.

I planned on using epoxy but there was no need.

I have just done 2 brand new 870 Police for our local MNR Enforcement guys. Peen both sides of the dovetail slot down, then re-install the front sight.

Yes gently peen the top edges of the dove tail down then tap the sight back into place.be for doing this check to see from which side the sight slides into the dove tail the easyest as you will need to reinstall the sight from that side.second method is to reinstall the sight center it in the dovetail then use a pin punch and place 2 dimples on each side of the sight on the top edge of the dovetail.

Must be a rem thing. Last winter my wife bought me an 11-87 and the first day out, the front bead came off... White bead in the snow... Not good. It now wears a highvis front bead and no problems since.

Had the centre bead fall of my brand new Versamax a while back. It had some other issues but I just took it back. Build quality coming out of Remington now is pathetic. Good luck with your 870 though, hopefully you're handy...

Ive heard that when you change a dovetailed sight you have to punch the sight out TO the right because the cut is wider slightly on the right side making a more snug fit the further left the sight goes. Is this true?
