Front sight fiber insert broken on my M&P9 Pro

A really quick and dirty trick is to use a piece of monofilament fishing line, or those nylon weed-whacker lines in its stead. Those translucent girl-drink swords can be cut into a replacement, too, at least till you order a replacement. For a little squirt of polystyrene, they charge too much for those things.

Dead simple to replace the rod yourself.
Here's a video from Dawson Precision to walk you through it.
Enjoy

Thank you! This vid really helpful. But now question turns into where to find the fiber rod in GTA? I went to Lebaron tonight but they don't 0.06'' rod. I will call Basspro when tomorrow but I doubt it. Those are only two stores I know of which carry guns/bows in GTA.

Maybe try phoning a S&W service center and ask them to send you a few rods.

I do it a little differently when replacing FO insert. First, I use windproof camp fire lighter - it generates more heat and flame doesn't move side to side (even outdoors at range if there is some wind), so you can keep FO further away from flame. I melt one end of FO rod before inserting it into sight. Then, insert FO into sight with free end coming out above muzzle (I take slide off and barrel out) and cut with sidecutters and then melt the other end.

Not exactly GTA, but I was at Williams in Port Perry today and they've got all the sizes and colours.

thanks for that advise ,have to visit them anyhow.
To bad i did not read it earlier as I was just around that area today.

Even with the missing FO Rod I had a blast shooting the M&P Pro today. This gun is just dead on.

.

Not sure if you want to go to this much effort, but I had not done one before and did not want a mess. I took the S hook from a tarp strap (very soft), drilled slightly with a drill bit (same diamiter as S hook) to create a dish shape (counter sink dent).
Heat it up and use it as a press on the end of the FO rod. Makes a very clean job of it. I held the S hook with vise grips and I have a drill press.

just to check. Is the rod in 0.06 inch or 0.06mm? I'm about 4 hours driving distance away from William's I have to call to order.

The rod is .60 of an inch. Put a small drop of crazy glue just under the rod and it will last longer. I have replaced the fiber optic on mine 3 times in the 6 months I have owned it.

Brownells sells the rods. It is a fix any shooter that has fiber optic sights should expect to have to do. It's not a fault of the gun.

is the .60 a typo? Google tells me it's .06". I wanted to confirm is it inch or mm as rod sold in Lebaron were marked in mm.

It's .060" (ie: 60 thousanths of an inch); not mm.

You can order bulk FO rod from SDM Fabricating (do a Google search).

$5.00 for a 10" piece plus shipping.

thanks Aqualung, tried SDM but "This recipient does not accept payments from non-U.S. (FRAUD ALERT) accounts.". I guess I'll try call both SDM and William's to see.

you can order from Brownells . Took them 2 weeks and cost me 13 $ US incl. shipping to get 2 Fiber Optic Rods ,one in green and one in red.

If you don't want wait and willing pay $10 more. You can order from William's Arms or CRAFM. Each rod is $5.99, shipping costs $15 but you can have them in two days.
