I have an FR8 that is missing the screw and threads to secure the front sight post:mad:. I have an idea how to repair this but my front sight post seems to be siezed as well. Does anyone have some advice or a trick to help sort out this issue ? I would really like to be able to adjust the sights on her.

A proper sight pusher or failing that Hot and cold. Try submerging the end of the bbl in boiling water then shocking the seized part with extreme cold = Raw propane. Remove the regulator from a tiger torch and ( outside needless to say) and crank open the valve while pointing it at the seized piece.
Seems like overkill for such a small piece I realize. There is an expensive spray that can be purchased at automotive supply shops as well if the Tiger torch is not something you can readily access.

Thanks tokguy. I shall give it a shot. Temperature is dropping here so the heat cold thing should be easy. I have tried some penetrant and it has been soaking for almost a week. If it aint free the propane torch, rifle and I are going outside. :)

Did you acquire the rifle in that condition? (Missing the screw?) If so, the previous owner may have sighted in the rifle and then used some LokTite to hold the front sight. As you know, the front sight is a threaded post that adjusts for both elevation and wind.

The post is usually easy to turn. LokTite breaks down with heat. Once it has been heated, it releases.

The post part of the front sight is made off-center, so it swings left and right as you turn it. Thus a full rev will change elevation, and part rev will give you some left-right adjustment. very simple and effective.

Yes, unfortunately did receive it without the screw. I am going to head to the range and check its poi before heating it up to move it. Hopefully it is good and I won't have to remove it. Thanks for the info on the sight adjustment, I found a detailed description on how to do it from the Surplus Rifle forum as well. I am looking at putting a scope as long as no damage is done to the rifle itself. I so far have found three options. 1. ATI mauser stock. 2. Marstar has scout mounts for the M1A (awaiting a return email on those). and 3. The scout mount for the M1A from Springfield. I will need a synthetic stock for options 2 and 3 as I won't cut the original stock to fit the mounts.

Well I received the info on the Marstar mounts. They won't fit. The inner diameter of the mount is to small to fit around the barrel just after the action. I suspect that the Springfield mount will have the same issue. So I ordered the ATI stock. The FR8 fits nicely in the main portion all though I won't be able to put the storage tube on as the length of the stock keeps that from happening but I am able to install the cap so that if I wanted to the bayonet could be fixed. The upper portion does not fit so well and really makes the whole thing look ginormous. I didn't like this at all. Since I have a limited budget and the stock was inexpensive relatively speaking, the upper is going to be modified. I will try to get some pictures up for those who may be interested of the rifle in the stock, the upper modified and everything together.
