does anyone know if there is a way to remove the front sight and bayonet assem and replace it with a front sight that doesn't have the bayonet attachment on it. i like the front sight but i can't stand the bayonet holder hanging there. i need to know if i knock out the push pins can i remove the sight without damaging it. any feed back would be helpful

heres an idea , why not leave the front sight in place and hack off the bayo lug (protect the barrel with duct tape) and then grind it smooth.... to make thing easy to handle, first remove the stock from the barrel.
 
i have though about that but i was hoping i could find a way to remove the whole peice and replace it with a new one that way it wouldn't look like its been chopped
 
I don't know if anyone makes the replacement you're talking about. The grinder solution can look as pro as your willing to make it.
 
Mine was ground off by it's previous owner...kind'a wish it wasn't as the cleaning rod now flys out, and a bayonet would have been handy in the bush vs bear defence, and zombies. :D

But yah grinding seems to be the standard method.

Numrich sells the original replacement lugs, and the sights are part of the same unit, so I'm not sure how one takes these off.

Survivors SKS page might have some folks that have done this before.
 
i have had it for about 3 months and its not that i don't like it with the wood stock it came with, its just im getting a new stock for it and theres not a cut out for it. so insted of having the nobe just stick out i was hoping to find a way to replace it.

I had it gone yesterday. It was a good feeling. It was hard to though of but once it is gone, the riffle feels nicer.
Survivers forum got pictures of the procedure of using gear puller to pull it off. The harder part is putting it back to the exact spot so it does not affect accuracy.

like i said, grind it , cheaper and less aggravation , just go slow on the grinding cos if you take off too much, ya cant put it back in , then hand file it smooth.

i like the looks of the bayo and rod on the sks but i dont like to carry it around on the range .
 
Don't throw out the bayonet, or the bolt (or in some cases pin) it comes with...as I'm sure one could sell for a few bucks down the road.
