Front sling mount for 870 with 12.5” barrel

I’m currently shopping for an 870 with either a 12.5” or 14” barrel. I had been intending to use a Magpul fore end but can’t see where a person could put a front sling mount (without adding a +1 to the 14” barrel). Just wondering what options might be out there or what guys might suggest to run a two point sling with an 870 in one of these configurations? Thanks,

If your set on the magpul forend I’d look at their line of QD or paraclip mounts, I’ve got one on a forend attached to a small rail on the underside of the forend. The sling has a hk style of paraclip, it works well.

I’d ditch the magpul forend and use a shorter 870 forend and a standard mag tube cap sling swivel to mount a sling, I prefer a forward sling point that doesn’t move if you’re pumping the action.

I agree that it would be preferable to have a “rigid” front mount that won’t move with the slide. The hogue foreend looked good too but liked the idea of being able to easily add a light when necessary, hence why I was leaning towards magpul with its rail system. My goal is to keep it as compact and light as possible for bush carry / hiking.

Absolutely despise the magpul forend. It's cold and gets slippery when it's wet. I use the Hogue overmolded forend on all my wingmasters

I’ve got
12.5” with fixed sling loop and Hogue forend
14” with Magpul clamp sling point and Magpul forend

I prefer the Magpul setup since I use QD swivels on the side of the barrel and side of the stock.

Do you want the sling on the side or under?

I like to sling my 14” super tight for woods use with a VTAC sling, how do you plan to carry yours?

I’d prefer to have the sling off the side but this is fairly new country for me so who knows what the final version will look like. I have an extra Vickers type sling around that Ill use for now as I like to be able to cinch the gun down if climbing or needing it out of my way.

Use a small rail and attach it to the forend, then use whatever style of light mount you like the most. This is what I did to a Rem synthetic police forend, I already had the laser/light mount. It might look like it sticks out far but my hand tucks infrony of it and my thumb can easily hit the tail switch. Two screws attach the rail to the forend.

GG&G did or does. I’d considered one but didn’t start trying to source one.

Going with the 14” barrel and +1 does add weight which is why I didn’t go that route on the Mrs 870. For me the 14” with +1 is the ideal setup and opens up many more configurations and setups.

Your 870P comes with a magazine cap that has a sling swivel stud similar to this:

Although the Magpul forend does stick a little further forward than the stud so I'm not sure if you will like that. I highly recommend upgrading to the S&J +1 extension with sling plate, as others have suggested:

I have a very similar shotgun to yours. On mine I recently installed a QD socket for a single point sling in the Magpul stock, that can convert to a 2 point sling with the S&J front plate and a paraclip.

I'm not sure if I like the 2 point sling arrangement - time will tell.

An expensive option: Nordic components coupler and cap, adds +1, and has a QD swivel point on the end.

I made a custom +1 extension on the lathe with theirs as inspiration. With a 12.5" bbl, the swivel risks rotating over the muzzle. I may consider a magpul QD to para clip adapter, and see how that goes. My set-up is at S&J right now getting threaded for chokes which will also reduce the risk of sling covering the muzzle.
