Frontier CMJ bullets

I can add a thumbs up for the 200 grn. FP in .45 ACP. PoFF and Gushulak were instrumental in helping me figure out a load and now I'm very pleased. Bullets are all very consistant in terms of weight and jacketing. I've got no complaints so far.

PS I am shooting the FPs out of a Glock. Apparently many 1911s won't feed them well. Just a warning PoFF provided....

would love to hear what loads people have had luck with their frontiers for 45 acp.

The only load I have currently (new to reloading) is for the 200 grain Flat Points. Higginson's/Marstar were out of the standard 230 grain Round Nose.

PoFF provided what he used and I have copied it with good success:

Federal 1x brass
Federal LP primer (very soft, I might pick another brand like Winchester)
5.0-5.1 grains of Titegroup
and of course the 200 grn. Frontiers...
OAL: 1.195 - 1.200

Low recoil yet with positive cycling in my stock G21. These FPs feed no problems in the Glock but 1911 users might find otherwise...

I used them in 9mm and .44mag...great stuff very inexpensive too.

John are you with marstar? I've been waiting since spring for 9mm Frontiers

For a long time, we were using Excel bullets for IPSC loads, untill we found the Frontiers. The price is a little higher but the quality and reproducibility in dimension and weight are MUCH better with the Frontiers. IMHO, the extra few cents are worth it. When you blow an Alpha by 1", you want to know that it was you and not the ammo :runaway:

(FWIW, in .40 S&W using 6.1g WSF behind a 180g Frontier makes major in a CZ w a 4.7" barrel)

I've been using their 230 grains Round Noses .45 in my Para for years, with good results. (I'm loading 4.8 of Titegroup, OAL of 1.235", this is a MAX load, just to ensure Major IPSC power factor regardless of the temperature)

I've been trying a few boxes of their 200 grains Flatpoints, in 45. Gunnutz Max Power had good results with the recipe he shared earlier in this thread, but on my side, my gun turned into a Jam-O-Matic. I figured it didn't like FlatPoints.

I've been using them in .44, 245 grains, flatpoints in my .44 Magnum Revolver, both for light target loads (9.0 grains of Titegroup), and for heavy full house loads (23 grains of H110). They're pretty good, but the cannelure is too thin and too shallow to ensure a good roll crimp. I'm finishing this box and won't be buying them again.

I've tried their .40/10mm bullets in my S&W MP40 and Sig P226. The TCFP (Truncated Cone Flat Point) 180 grains jammed both gun, big time. Their RNFP 180 grs are working just fine, I'm still using them and will continue to do so. Load them over a 4.1-4.2 grs load of Titegroup at 1.135" OAL and you have a nice, medium recoiling load (borderline Major for IPSC, but ayways, I shoot those guns in production, so who cares about major).

My advice, if you buy them, buy LOTS, because you'll be shooting alot of them, also, check each bullet before seating it, I have a rejection rate of 2 or 3 per 500 (mis-shaped, chipped plating, severly oxidized), and I like to put them in the tumbler for 10 minutes because some batches are lightly oxidized, and I like my ammo to be pimpin' shiny.

For .45 ACP, 230g CMJ Frontiers, I use 4.7grains of Titegroup with an OAL length of 1.24" (may tweak the OAL one day but this load works well in all my semi's :) ) I just put in an order for more bullets with Higginson's Powders. The price sure jumped since the last time I ordered (85/1000 to 105/1000  ).
