This extremely popular event is SOLD OUT, but it is 6 weeks away... speak with Mark about being put down as an alternate...

Kamloops Target Sports Association will be holding its annual 300M ISSF shoot "The Frosty Farky" on the last weekend in September. This is a two-day event in which competitors shoot 6-strings of 15 rounds plus sighters.

If you have a Savage, Remington or other heavy-barreled rifle and you have been thinking of trying precision shooting, this is EXACTLY the sort of competition to try for the first time. You can shoot off a shooting bench or you can shoot prone (F-class style). The rules are no muzzle brakes, 8mm or less and no magnums, and your gun cannot weigh more than 22 pounds (including the weight of everything that recoils with the gun: scope, bipod etc)

A scope and some sort of front rest are necessary and a rear bag is also best. The "Bull" is 2" and the "10" ring is 4". If you have a gun that is capable of shooting 1MOA, you can be competitive.

Mark has just announced that they will have a separate category for F-TR which means that 223's and 308's under 6.5 kg and shooting under 80 and 156 grain bullets respectively can compete in their own class instead of lumping into F-open. This is good news!

I know how intimidating the whole competition thing can be, but you will not find a more welcoming and enthusiastic bunch of shooters that would love to talk shooting with a new person. The age range is literally between 18 and 80.

I warn you, this sort of competition is addictive. I cannot think of a single person that ever tried this that wasn't totally hooked, and once the first match is under your belt, you will never look back. I also bring along a second match rifle and ammo, as do most of the shooters. I would be more than happy to let you shoot a string with a full-on F-class rig if you would like to try it while you're there.

Mark Anderson is the KTSA ISSF director and the match organizer. He can be reached at powderkeg@shaw.ca or by all means if you have any questions about these sort of matches, drop me a line!

We follow the DCRA F class rules. Everyone shoots in F Open.

There are factory, semi customs, and full meal deals. Because the target is quite generous, everyone shoots 10s and some X's. And once you start getting some of these pop up, you are well on your way to an expensive addiction.

Great people, challenging conditions, well run match. You shoot 3 relays of 15 plus sighters on Sat and 2 relays on Sunday. If you can't make it for both days, there are provisions to just shoot one.

There are lots of helping hands to get you through your first relays.

For those who may have concerns with shooting prone, there are limited spaces to shoot off a bench. We all shoot off inclined platforms while prone which really helps those with neck/back issues. It really is quite comfy.

Cals from 223 to 303 Brit have been used with good effect. Of course, the bulk are in the popular 6mm and 6.5mm.

If you want to shoot in a jacket and sling, there is also a TR class. I am always amazed and impressed at how well they shoot without all the aids I have.

Room is very limited and has filled the last few years so come on down and have alot of fun.

BCSteve, give me a pm on your scope. Maybe I can help

Jerry

Hiller and I will be out looking for yotes September 1st.....nothing under 1000 yards.

I just found out I need glasses....no wonder everything was fuzzy in my scope, I was blaming it on mirage!

You're as great bunch of guys and I'm proud to be shooting along side y'all.

with my wife's 100+ chicckens, ducks and turkeys, yote hunting is like finding rats in a barrel. You don't even have to be sober and it is defending livestock so the season never closes.

"Have Gun Will Travel". Don't be shy just give Hiller and I directions and we can protect your livestock and your wife. Shooting a rat in a barrel can be tough....keep the faith.

Hey Cliff,
Is the neck all healed up? If it is, you might want to bring the brace along for Aubrey...you know....just in case. :D

Hey Richard.....neck is good but I had a heck of a time explaining the rug burns on my elbows, they're just starting to heal. I guess next year I'll have to wear skate board elbow protectors.
