First I kept running into other hunters on the property I was hunting, I know some of them had permission and were very accomodating, but it sucks interfering regardless (for both of us I'm sure). Last night there was at least a dozen hunters besides my wife and I visible from where we were, mostly on neighboring property, but I'm sure the qauds cruising back and forth didn't help.
This morning a group that was supposed to be hunting the neighbors property wandered onto mine (not sure if they had permission or not). They busted a doe that ran across in front of me which I shot at even though I shouldn't have  but missed. I was sure I pulled the shot, and when I check it's tracks, there wasn't any blood to be found. I looked for quite a while in case I was missing it but nada.
This evening I went out with the Mrs. and sat for a while. No other hunters today so that was good. About 20 mins before legal light ended 5 deer wandered out. She connected with one and they all took off. I got 4 of them to stop with a couple grunts and shot at another one, fricked missed again!!! It was getting dark so we headed to the impact point right away, found 2 little droplets of blood, but nothing else. It started to rain about this time, but we kept looking till it was completely dark, following their general direction of travel. Never found another drop and by the time half an hour had passed the drizzle was steady enough that whatever blood might be there would be washed away. The deer ran 200 to 250 yards to the opposite end of the field so I'm sure it wasn't a good vital hit or it would have lost more blood and probably wouldn't have made it that far. I just hope it wasn't wounded badly. I'm gonna go look again in the morning, but I'm not holding out much hope of finding it. Then I'm gonna take my gun to the range and check to see if the scope got bumped or if I'm just a lousy shot.

Thanks, just needed to rant for a bit.

Sucks that you didn't get to take anything other than experience home. On the bright side though at least there's deer there... I spent 4 days in a tree during our controlled hunt and saw 1 squirrel and 1 coyote. That's it...

what wmus are you guys in? I have seen lots of deer in 87E and 89B, just no shots or out of range. I saw a doe on Sunday that was the size of a pony. Tried to get a pic but no luck. Never seen one that big.

I'm hunting 92d, I've seen lots of activity and close to a dozen deer in the last 3 or 4 days, most last night.

Found my wife's deer this morning, apparently it ran 90 degrees opposite the rest of them and died about 100 yds from where it was shot, we just couldn't find it in the corn stubble with minimal light. As for the lack of blood, it looks like the hornady xtp didn't pass through so it didn't leave much of a trail. Anyway this is what I found this morning, at least we can put our minds at ease that it didn't suffer. She hit the top of the heart btw. May have to do a little yote hunting after deer season ends.

4 more days, there'll only be a coupla bones left, stripped like well cooked chicken wings.

Nothing is wasted in nature.

Sorry about your luck, always sucks losing an animal. Anyone who hunts long enough will experience it though...

Problem is I gotta go back to work won't be there again till saturday
No problem sawatsky, Just set yourself up near the coyote feed site... next saturday or the one after... even a month later will work... give a few good suffering animal calls..
The bastard coyotes will come to the renewed dinner bell with a cautious hunger.
I recommend a shotgun for bush or a rifle for more open country. Good luck, I hope you kill a few over that site.:D

I certainly plan on trying, but I've never seen the buggers, they seem to only come out at night. Hopefully a distress call of some sort will lure them out though
