Hey gang, what are your thoughts on this bullpup?
Is it worth me getting one, or should I stay away due to ... ?

Looking for some educated opinions with explanations, good and bad.

Thanks

Edit: I already own a Tavor.

I would love them if they were made with a NR barrel from the factory. They shouldn't cost anymore than a Tavor but with an NR barrel your near the price of 2 Tavors. They are bulky compared to the Tavor but I love bullpups and would add one to my collection if they were priced comparably and actually available as the Tavor.

Ah the tactical tuna.

They're a neat design. The big question is: how much do you care about NR and how much will you pay for it?

Well if the NR barrel is match grade accurate 1moa then I think I'm willing to pay, but if it's the same accuracy as my Tavor, then no.
So depends on what barrel is on it that makes it NR.

I owned (and sold) three over the years. They are cool and unique but also a little quirky. Accuracy was better that the Tavor I had, but not as good as a half-decent AR. I sold my last one as they've been (supposedly) discontinued and spare parts availability concerned me. That and I wanted to try a TAvor CTAR, too.:) I posted a detailed look in this thread when I bough my first one a few years ago.

That's the one you want to read start to finish MikeBike!

Thanks, that thread is perfect!

I've compared the FS2000 and Tavor before--here are my thoughts

Things I liked about the FS2000:

  • More accurate than the Tavor (2 MOA vs. 2.75 or 3MOA for the Tavor)
  • Very ergonomic and comfortable to hold for me
  • Very well-balanced
  • Easy field stripping (except for the bolt--that was tricky!)
  • 100% reliable
  • Trigger reset was short, and once you were passed the heavy first stage, very crisp
  • Ejected rounds just popped out the front and made a tidy pile at the range
  • Slightly raised optic rail meant that low mounts could be used for optics
  • And, to be honest, it was a real attention-getter at the range compared to the ARs that most Black Rifle owners around here have.

Things I didn't like:

  • No last shot hold open due to forward ejection
  • First stage of trigger pull was quite heavy and a little creepy
  • Lack of drop free mags (although the deal is that the magwell is designed to keep out dirt)
  • Snappier recoil than the Tavor (of course, it's a 5.56 so it's still not bad!)
  • Limited magazine compatibility
  • Tricker mag changes
  • The charging handle seemed a little flimsy
  • Now that the FS2000 is out of production I'd be worried about spare parts

Things I like about the Tavor:

  • The trigger is close to the feel of a factory AR trigger (especially with the secondary trigger spring removed--and maybe with the new packs?), just a bit heavier
  • Smoother, straight back recoil impulse
  • Polymer mags can be used
  • Mags drop free
  • AR-like safety
  • Last shot hold open
  • "Locks in" tight when using the Israeli "six points of contact" hold
  • Way more accessories

Things I don't like as much about the Tavor:

  • Not quite as comfortable to hold as the FS2000
  • Balance is not as good (to me, a lot of shooters prefer the rearward balance of the Tavor)
  • Less accurate, but not that much less
  • Low optic rail means that even high optic mounts seem a little low (to me at least).

My thoughts having owned both:

As far as control and manipulation of the rifle itself (man-handling and pointing), I preferred the Tavor. The overall dimensions, width and pistol grip is better, although I don't care for the trigger (pistol grip) guard.
The safety, trigger and charging of the rifle, preference was for the FN.
I like the HK style bolt hold open on the FN (manipulated with the charging handle), but agree with pretty much everyone who would like a last round hold open.
Definately prefer the Tavor mag release, mag well and manipulation.
Accuracy was hugely in the FN's favor rivalling most rack grade ARs with ease.
Interestingly I found the recoil impulse to also be largely in the FNs favour over the Tavor too.

I find it odd that FN hasen't chose to just make the furniture modular and tweek a few things here and then release them to the sporting consumer - I think they would sell fine.

I really like mine... I just recently picked up a tri-rail forend - heavy bugger (weighs a pound), but I plan on dropping a bunch of gophers with it this summer, and now a bi-pod is easily mountable. The gun has a few idiosyncrasies - rotating safety, gasket seals inside mag well, top toilet bowl cover, but all are manageable, and for me add to the appeal of the gun. Mine was re-barreled by Heron Arms, and the muzzle was reverse threaded to accommodate the factory brake. Looks great and it shoots darts. I replaced the floor plate on a few LAR-15 mags with C-Products Mag Pulls to allow for removal - works fine for me.

And to quote Ben Kenobi, "...an elegant weapon, for a more civilized age."

Robot sticker was installed by my son because he thought it wouldn't look "as mean now".

I owned an FS2000 and while it shot awesome, I shoot enough to actually wear out parts and not having the availability of spares was the biggest reason I sold mine and switched to Daniel Defense carbines since Wolverine Supplies has every part you need for them.

Nice looking rifle, I should rebarrel mine too.

Ian does excellent work at Heron Arms... He's done several barrels for me and I wouldn't think of going to anyone else for this type of work.

That's a lot of shooting... not a huge concern on my end that I'll ever throw that many rounds through my personal guns... The only part that I thought would be hard to get if it broke was that white poly shell lifter appliance... I bought a spare when I purchased the FS2K, and it's tucked away in the little compartment beneath the trigger pack just in case...
