You guys think that there is a chance that you cant grandfather these in and it will be an outright ban?
Yes, there is a chance. A chance that grows smaller with every gun owner that owns them. But it might also have no effect at all.
According to recent FOI requests, there are 700,000 or so RPAL holders, but only about 260,000 who actually have restricted firearms registered to their name. Therefore the liberals think that at most they will lose 260,000 votes in a ban, and realistically, a lot less than that because most gun owners scream from the tree tops that they will already never vote liberal no matter what.
If those same 260,000 gun owners double their stash of owned guns, this will make a buy back more expensive, but will do nothing to deter a prohib/grandfather, because the Liberals can only lose a vote once.
If you already own a stack of handguns and ARs, buying more for yourself is not nearly as important and as buying them for people who don't have any. Some have suggested the Liberals don't think that RPAL holders who don't own a handgun won't in fact be losing anything in a ban, as if the ABILITY to own a handgun is without value.
IIn any event, if you have spouses, parents, kids, friends, etc that have an RPAL but do not have a registered handgun or Restricted Rifle registered on their license, don't buy more for yourself. Buy one for them. Even if its just a loan until they can afford it for themselves. And if you have a friend without the Restricted endorsement, help them upgrade ASAP.
The most important thing here is understanding that while the logistics of effecting a ban will make it an absolute gong show, its entirely likely that the desperate and floundering liberals think that logistics might be an after the election problem. The best way to stop them from trying the ban in the first place is to make it as politically expensive as possible. By focusing on increasing the number of PEOPLE who own handguns, rather than simply the number of handguns owned, we make a ban more Politically expensive. And particularly if we can play gender politics for a minute, by getting the Wives and Girlfriends into the game, and by narrowing the gender gap in gun ownership, Trudeau the feminist will have to seriously rethink that old and tired notion that gun bans is a popular argument with woman.
