Interesting to see a couple of untampered, unwelded beauties on the "EE" . --So, Who here on this forum are willing to admit that they are lucky enough, old enough & allowed to to own these classic , unbubba'ed 12 (2) F.A.'s -- Unfortunately I, for one am not !!

There are around 800 FA owners left in Canada now...maybe less. FA owners are a dying breed.....down from the 1278 on Jan1/78 when the door was slammed and some Canadians became second class citizens...

where did you get the stat that there are only 800 12(2) fa owners left? I would think that there should be more than that-----december 1978 was the cut off. many guns were brought in before this, because of the date. we all knew a long time before it was law.

Always willing to listen to a new number, but I know of about 10 years ago there was around 925 and the youngest FA owner today would be 50 and what 18 year old in 1978 could afford to fork out the money for an MG.... Average age of the guys I am aware of is 65 plus and WAY plus. The T gun that was just advertised on the EE had been in the owners possession for 37 years.... Just look at the math, but I always stand to be corrected.
If you knew LONG before the cut off date, you were one of the few. I think the time period between the act, regulation and promulgation was around one month...but it was 30 years ago, and the mind grows dim (with age)

I met a few of them, fondled a few guns over the years, but I would have been 3 for that cutoff .... And dumb me I didn't get my PAL until fairly recently so I ended up missing the 12(x) boat altogether ...

Full Auto

Was offered a Thompson and a Sten - decided the ammo would be to expensive and said no. A couple of years later they grandfathered full auto and I have been kickin my ass since.
Learned my lesson though and have been aquiring every possible class of firearm since. The lieberals are cowards and will probably outlaw everything by grandfathering - the most economical and safe way of taking away our rights to protect ourselves from the future totalitarian nanny state pseudo-socialist governments.

Ah well I still have some just can't shoot em except under certain circumstances IE "demonstrations". What concerns me is I can't buy/sell CA!! However all my kids have put tons of 9mm downrange atCFB Borden. Some 8mm KURZ as well (STG 44) and have some bragging rights but they are in their 30's now. Had at one time: All the sten marks 1thru 5,m-45 K gun,STG 44,SterlingL1A1,Lewis, 2 brens(Inglis)mg 34,mg42,BM59,M14,m38 Suomi(my favorite,74rd drums!!) Also fired a Villar Perosa,2 barrels 1000 rds /min. Ah well those were the good old days............JITC

i missed the FA by 4 months, i can still buy CA which is not to bad but our govt does not trust us taking them to the range. they figure we will get too good in using our ca's that we will be better than the military that is going to protect canada in time of invasion, if they have enough ammo to go around to the troops. i have 5000 rds ready for my mg if they need help in protecting the area, not much but it cant hurt.

It's been almost 200 years and memories of 1812 are still looming large.

F/A status can be very arduous

Got my first F/A in 1977 at 19 years old. Was deemed to be a "bonificed collecter" by the RCMP. Started with a Sten and moved on to an MP40,a working select fire FAL and some other goodies. I was inspected yearly by an OPP inspector who was always easy to deal with, never had a problem with him. Upon his retirement I get Mr. anti gun as a replacement and the b/s started. Every inspection there after ended in a demand to increase security or change something. In 2001 I hit my limit when I was told I had to put steel plate between my basement storage area and the ground floor of my home. It was fun while it lasted but to me the writing was on the wall and everything was sold.
In retrospect at least since then I can vacation and not worry about things at home.

Not auto related but a funny story about that. A friend in the U.K. shoots Black powder. The local plod came around to inspect his premises and was unhappy about his powder storage, which was in a wooden box. Wanted to have him store it in a steel box with a lock. Can you say,"BOMB!"

it was jan 1 1978. maybe the fa collectors should have a heading on gunnutz. parts and accessories are always in demand to keep the guns in shape.
