Hi all.

Well, now that I have the bug (thanks you to the Shadow for that!) I am on the hunt for a 1911 in 45 ACP.

No offense to the traditionalist (I intend to pick up a standard 1911 as well but I have that figured out already) but I love the look of the models that I have seen with the full length dust cover.

I would like to know of any models out there that you all own, or would love to own?

Pics are great, but links work just as well.

Thanks guys & gals!

Personally, I like the look and added weight of a full rail.

However, you will be VERY limited in holster choices (if needed). I have a Kimber Warrior, and had a tough enough time just finding one that fit the short rail, let alone a full rail!.

I would LOVE a Springfield TRP with full dust cover.

I personally think that full length dust cover looks horrible on a 1911.

If I wanted a rail I would have opted to have a factory 1911 with light rail or install Dawson / Heirloom Precision light rail.

The 1911 is a classic piece. For the past 90+ years people have not got tired of the look of what it is.

The longer dust cover is just fashion. Fashion comes and goes. Today it looks cool and tomorrow it is junk. You may hate it several months after you buy it. So do not do it unless you are 100% sure you need the accessory rail, and it has to be that long.

For a rail gun I would get one of those modern designs instead. Why make a heavy gun even heavier?

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

Just to be clear, I am not looking for one with a rail specifically.

So far all of the ones that I have found are pricey:

Thanks for your input guys (positive and negative) like the saying goes...to each his own. I like the look of both the classic 1911's and the variants (well most of them).

I thought that I might get more responses that this though. Is it perhaps that there are not that many manufacturers that make them?
