When I insert a loaded mag or a stripper clip into my Tapco'd Norinco SKS, the bolt won't close.

I pull the charging handle completely back, but the bolt catch doesn't fall. I have to manually push the catch down then get my finger out of the action before the bolt chambers the first round.

The catch moves freely with no mag inserted. I can slide it up and down with my finger with little to no resistance.

Any idea why the catch won't fall/release to allow that first round to chamber?

Thanks,

Thanks, just figured it out while out in the garage. I thought the mag's spine was fitting too snug and not allowing the bolt hold to drop easily when the mag was loaded with rounds. I filed the top of the spine above the mag catch and the bolt hold drops freely now.

I don't blame the mag though, that's the easy thing to do. Especially when it's name rhymes with excrement. :p

I empathize with the fact that TAPCO has engineered a series of accessories based on a 60+ year old rifle of varying countries of origin, years of production and tolerances. Each SKS is as different as they are the same.
TAPCO did a great job making their accessories compatible with these wonderful rifles, sometimes with slight adjustments needed by the user.
Considering those variables, I think TAPCO's product is exceptional.

Very well said.

I intend to do a tapco built one of these days and I agree with your assessment.

Glad you got it sorted out.
