full moon?

Legend has it that hunting or fishing within 3 days of full moon increases your chances for success.

That's because it's easier to see to get to your watch and get set up before 1/2 hour before sunrise and / or being able to see better for 1/2 hour after sunset and still being able to see OK and find your way back to camp afterwards.... Just saying :)

In the Fall in Northern B.C. my old hunting partner and I always had our best luck on the full moon because it seems to bring on the first frosts and that seems to trigger the rut.
No expert but it works for us.

I agree with that, full moon brings on the rut. Somehow that has a familiar ring to it!

Ron, in BC we are one up on that! With all game except migratory birds and maybe pheasants, the daily shooting hours are from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset.

I read a few articles years ago that discussed phototropism (IIRC) and how sunlight/length of day is what caused the rut to occur. In one article they said that it was possible to put penned deer into the rut by keeping them indoors and altering the amount of light they had each day and the timing of the light. IE you could have the rut take place in the spring or summer. If I also remember correctly this is how they go about collecting the doe pee before hunting season starts.
