Full out tactical SKS build

I agree with the idea of a vz 58. Huge step up from a tactically awkward sks and all said and done you are looking at spending at least $650 on the sks. Buy a vz 58 and some mags and you will have way more fun. If I was going to still follow through with another "tacticool" build on an sks, I would do as follows:

Archangel or tapco stock. (Not ati. I bought that one and found out the hard way that not only is it more expensive than the tapco but the hinge is made of polymer. Poor quality.

Then I would go with a B.C. tactical scout mount and a vortex spark.

Top it off with just 1 tapco 20rd "detachable" (detachable mags on sks' are a joke. They suck and do not work.) And have a bunch of stripper clips ready to go.

Then shoot the sh!t out of it!

archangel stock $200
magwedge kwikrail $130 (they are a lot chaeper now!)
cheap ass nc star red dot $30
tapco mags $30 each
magpul vert grip $50
blackhawk 3 point sling $50
ATI featherweight bipod $30

If you want full out tactical, you can probably add a magpul Rfg, an afg, maybe a CTR stock, red dot magnifier combo and some useless bus in places they will never work. Maybe you can also add a second red dot on the side rail at the front for sideways shooting and also add flamethrower, another AFG, 2 more bi pods and a kitchen sink.

It's a sks. Keep it simple. Ever in tactical form, don't add too much. These guns are pretty heavy as is. Just my 0.2$
 
im a fan of keeping the rifle the way it was designed they got it right the first time(most of these accessory's only hinder normal operation) you want a tactical mall ninja gun buy a Tonka toy AR15

With that amount of money you could have bought an other SKS along with some ammo and shot the sh!t out of them...
 
The falicy with the Wartak is not the price. It's that they use refurbed SKSes. A new chassis on a used rifle. If they used a brand new Chinese on the other hand...

Too bad they didn't start this earlier and purchase a large portion of them from Marstar.
 
The only tactical aftermarket SKS stock that was the least bit comfortable for me was The ATI Monte Carlo.
I added a Magpul rail to the front underside and attached a vertical grip. Second mod was just a Tapco mag.
Otherwise, my Tula and Izzy wear original hardwood stocks with fit and feel great as is.
My Tapco stock lasted two outings before being tossed aside. Way too clunky and boxy feeling.

True, and I agree for the most part. But there is also a way to express this view without insulting the opposing side and coming across as intolerant or dismissive.
 
There is definitely nothing wrong with tacticooling an sks. There are TONS of them available and they are cheap as can be. They aren't rare or ultra accurate rifles so why not modify them and make it your own. My sks was my first firearm and I went to work on it right away. I didn't do anything crazy, just an ATI strikeforce, magpul RVG, scout mount with bushnell red dot and a tapco mag. It's a blast to shoot and still one of my favorit guns. Have fun with it dude and remember at 200$, you can always get a second one and leave it as is.
 
Change to a Tapco stock - perhaps add a rubber butt pad - that's it.

Learn how to shoot with open sights and save the money for a platform that can handle it (XCR for example). This way, you will be able to maintain most of the value of your SKS.

soon the surplus will dry up(very soon thanks to the Ukraine) and besides all the accessory's in the world don't do anything for function and most of the time hinder operation. they may not shoot one hole groups(with surplus and cheap factory anyway) but they do what they are made to do hit a man size target at 300 yards its a battle weapon where reliability is number one and accuracy to do the job is number two. when you start screwing with tem you also start screwing with reliability putting mags it was never made to take or stocks that it was never meant to be in. I get better results with my SKS's I feed them with stripper clips they still bare the wood stock the only mod is a odd on rubber recoil pad to give me extra length to fit my length of pull I don't think I have ever had a failure to feed or any other malfunction either with surplus or cheap factory or my reloads. biggest problem is owners is they are still using the western thought process with a eastern bloc gun

people some times hang too much stuff off of guns for some reason these are mall ninja guns and the ar15/m16/c7 are not a rifle I like too much an not something I could trust my life on due to reliability factor
 
I also wouldn't equate attaching accessories to a gun as a "build" as I often see them referred.
Cake decorators aren't always actual bakers after all.
