Full stocked rifles: muzzle cap ban screw tight, or not so much.

Wondering if there's any experience on here with experimentation with the muzzle cap screw on full stocked rifles? I have on that changes POI with consecutive shots: each one appears to drop a bit from the last, and not sure if it's because of the muzzle band screw or?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

It has nothing to do with the muzzle cap or screw... you could pull it apart and check for contact along the forend channel... it should be fully relieved back to the chamber swell

This rifle has contact throughout the entire barrel length. So much so that you can't put a paper's thickness anywhere along. Unfortunately I don't have the heart to mess with such craftsmanship, and was wondering if the muzzle cap made any difference. Thanks for your answer.

What rifle are you referring to? Most of my full stock rifles and mannlichers has a spring tensioner in a pocket that is cut into the fore end of the stock so that it wouldn't pinch the barrel too much when the muzzle cap or barrel band is tightened.

How much dispersion are we talking about between shots? Presuming this is a light contour barrel, and the dispersion grows as you shoot more rounds into a group / warm up the barrel too. If the first two shots are within a reasonable spacing of each other, wouldn’t touch a thing. I have a Ruger No.1 that does that, not a full stock but they have their own forend voodoo, and the first two while the barrel remains cool are right tight together, then subsequent rounds get more and more adventurous and go afield incrementally more. Hasn’t hurt its field performance on game one bit.

Which rifle are we talking about?

I have a few other full stocked rifles and all shoot very well, this is the first time I've had a challenge like this so it's somewhat perplexing.
