Guys,
I attended the one day FREE submachine gun school at Front Sight. Front Sight is located outisde Las Vegas off Hwy 160 on the way to Pahrump. You'll need a rental car because it takes about an hour to drive their. Front Sight is located in Nye County, just over the Clark County line (Las Vegas).
The course was very professional in every way. I can state that because I have 30 year's experience with all types of small arms through artillery.
The instuctors were very good and the guns used were standard Uzi 9mm SMG's with the folding metal stock. Course of fire is from 15 yards. Students are taught to shoot the SMG with the stock extended and from a ready position. Trigger manipulation is used instead of the selector. Short bursts of 3 to 5 rounds and double taps are taught.
On the last relay of the day, they let you hose the target with a full magazine. On my target I got almost all in center of mass, except for the last several rounds that strayed into the crotch area. I told the instructor: "Well, if you can't kill him, at least he won't have any more fun." The instructor got a good laugh at that one.
As far as the sales pitch goes, they give it to you in a large auditorium and talk up the advantages of FS memberships. The problem that I had was the marketing is aimed at the folks from California. In California, the property values are horrendously over-inflated. So, when you sell property there, you have a lot more money than a similar place in Nevada. I don't remember the prices for the property, but it was out of my price range. I couldn't talk to the Scientology part as there was nothing about in in the sales pitch we got. The shooting was fun.
Do a search for Front Sight and pull up the website to see if they still have the courses. Front Sight does offer other courses from combat pistol, combat shotgun, submachine gun, long range rifle, and others.
BTW, Nevada and Arizona are both Class III states where you can own legal full autos with the correct paperwork. Sear cut FAL's are Class III guns, but the semi-auto clones are not restricted from ownership in any way. Stay way from California -- everything is illegal or screwed-up in that crummy state.
