I would say there is considerable risk, more than just a jam but we are all free here to engage in risk at our discretion, well at least we should be. This is not something I would do with an old POS shot gun and it is not someting I would do often with a good shot gun.

I’ve got an old 870 barrel around here somewhere that has distinct groves down the inside that match up to the ones on certain shotshell hulls. For the amount of slugs I shoot I’d rather just buy proper ones and avoid the risk.
I played with cut shells and then switched over to dumping the shot into a pot of molten wax and then pouring the mixture back into the shell. The result is a hard wax slug.
I shot a porcupine with one. In one side and out the other. No sign of falling apart.
Good plinking slugs for 30 cents each.
Once I got the hang of making them, they will cycle through a pump or semi.

on a side note, I have a pellet Rifle that I "diesel "
people said not to do it and it would harm the rifle.
6 years later its running strong. can get 1300fps & good accuracy.
not worried about the cut shells and my Maverick either, lol

Cut shells are a really good thing to know about in an emergency, say a bear is menacing you while you're out after upland birds, beyond that the thing is you can't walk around with them over a period of time and not expect problems, nor will they chamber reliably one after another. I don't know what the wax thing will do to a barrel, but again, in an emergency good to know about if you have the wax and time to fool with it. Long term, a mold to cast the melted target shot into a slug and then a means to re-crimp the shell, best bet of all.
I don't think it is safe. The pressure must be much higher in the barrel cause of the considerably larger ''slug'' diameter with the hull.
Remember? it's well known there is a big risk shooting 3,5'' shell in a 3'' chamber exactly because the hull is deploying in the barrel creating a restriction and dangerous pressure.
That said, I tried it when I was young and dumb.
Wax shot slug should be absolutely safe and I would non mind shot theses.

Nothing in bc, seeing as small game and large game seasons overlap. As long as your pump or semi gun is plugged to 2 it’s legal to have shot and slugs in your pocket or gun while hunting.
Ask someone who reloads shotshells. If you change primers, you change the pressure. If you change the type of wad, you change the pressure. If you change from lead to steel, you change the pressure. If you use a buffering material in the shot, you change pressure. If you change powders, you change pressure. That's why every recipe is specific and tested.
So shoving something (that has now been glued together) with a 0.790" diameter down a 0.729" bore, which may then choke down to 0.685" is nothing to worry about. That should be fine.

Spikes in pressure aside there is a very low chance of serious issues doing this. There is enough content on YouTube to prove that blowing up a shotgun is actually very, very hard even when you are purposely trying to do it.
I'm not sure what happened to the barrel of the member that said he has marks most likely from this but I guarantee those marks weren't left by plastic anything traveling down the barrel.
Nevertheless, this is just so pointless I would never bother outside of an emergency of whatever kind.
