Fun with the 500S&W

If you get a chance, take some videos of shooting the .500, and then capture a still frame of the "kaboom" moment. They make for cool pictures. I did these a few years ago with a .460S&W firing full-house factory loads from Hornady:

Framing a copy of that with the caption "Burglary? Don't even think about it" and putting it out at your front gate should keep the neighbourhood safe.
There is (of course!) a hickock45 video of him shooting one on the compound.
I wouldn't think that a faster powder like Tightgroup is going to be the best for this sort of gun. And the pressure readings in the reloading data at the Hodgdon website confirms that a max load of Tightgroup gives a higher pressure than most other options and delivers a lower velocity at the same time. It's not by much but it's worth looking at some other powders to try.
I'm a big fan of 4227 and Unique for big loads like this. And of course full helpings of H110 for the flash show....
Had never reloaded before and this is what came recomended. The reloading chart shows a little over 50,000 psi I believe. It was one of the higher pressures listed. Oh well its working and I got 3lbs to use up lol
