Yes, some good arguments for 2011, but if you were an Infantryman in 1943 the Garand was a better choice than any type of bolt action rifle used by most armies of the period.

He is not speaking to morons, he is the moron speaking. The Garand served its purpose during its era. At least it didn't require re-engineering 300 (+) times over a 50 year service history like some rifles to make it "functional".

Well that was interesting, I am certain all those faults existed individually or en mass on any number of rifles. But there were a lot of them made and they seemed to get the job done.

The only valid point he made is how the military powers that be always seem to know better than the designers of their weapons.
 
If his Honour Guard story is true, the armourer who refurbed them must have been real drunk.
I've only seen a Garand jam once, and it was because of a scope mount.
 
I'm not sure who he is even speaking to / arguing with.

Anyone I've met with garands realize it's a great rifle with rich, significant military history. I haven't met anyone arguing it's without flaws, by any means. Otherwise it would still be used.
 
If you want a REAL horror story, the SA80 was a good candidate.
They had to give it to the Germans to fix it.
NOBODY ELSE wants it, even Belize and the Falklands rejected it!

George Patton said all sorts of hilarious things. A great leader, and a gifted standup comedian.
The stupider the firearms blog entry, the more likely someone will post it on CGN, you get the behaviour you reinforce.
 
He derides the M1 rifle, but somehow the bolt action Moisin gets into his article spoken with respect as it's something kind of superior design to the M1. Can't use the eastern front as any sane example. I'm sure the Russian conscripts would have used axes on the Germans if ordered to under duress from the NKVD.

"...only seen a Garand jam once..." They do tend to jam with blanks. Usually when using the wrong blank. Mikey was likely issued the crimped style blanks. Those aren't the right blank for an M1.
'Completely re-arsenaled' doesn't mean the same thing to everybody. His 'Honor Guard' rifles were not functioning properly. Likely never cleaned and lubed correctly either. Nobody has ever said the M1 was the first semi-auto battle rifle or claims the M1 killed German or Japanese troopies at a rate of 15:1 either. Most battle casualites in W.W. II were caused by artillery, just like W.W. I.
The guy whines about "Garand Thumb" a lot. Garand thumb is caused by operator failure. If he had been trained to use an M1 his problems would go away.
He doesn't like the M14 either. It was adopted for purely political reasons, just like his favorite M16. A rifle that nobody wanted.
