I was out hunting with a few friends 15 years ago , they were up hunting for a week and I live here. Needless to say ask me to help get them a deer to take home , no problem! So I take them to this spot I knew well and put one guy at the bottom of a ridge and take the other guy with me to push deer off the top. Shortly after reaching the top , I heard a noise , twigs snapped . It was about 15 yards away ,there is one I said, up with my 30-06 and shot ! The deer stumbled then ran down the ridge, now at the bottom of hill I only had a ass shot. I asked my friend if he had a better shot ( I don't like to ruin the meat) he said yes he shot 2 times , said it ran up over the next hill . So we walk down ridge meeting up with 2 friend who was this friends dad. The dad says , by the sounds he heard the first shot hit the next 2 missed . We told him the story and all agreed I shot the deer , his son missed ! we walk to where I saw deer last . It is dead one bullet hole in it.
Once we get a look at this deer we see that it has a huge rack , tall , heavy , 13 points total. Biggest one I have shot to date.
Anyways , with in 24 hours after deer was shot , the story changed ! It was now that when they skinned the deer they found a fragment of a bullet and it was not from my gun !!
I am sure I am not the only one this kind of thing has happened to !

In our camp first killing blood claims the deer. Gut and ass shots are not considered killing shots in our book but we don't usually have that problem.

Just by looking at fragment they said that it was not mine , and I do have a picture but don't know how to post it! New on here just sharing a story!

She did shoot the deer, but since there wasn't enough bullet to prove it was from her 30-06, the two men changed their story from her killing the deer, to the son killing the deer once they saw it was a nice large whitetail buck.

I can vouch for this whole story. Pics and all.

The mount is now in the states.

I hunt with Speer Grand Slam bullets with "GS" printed on the base. I never had to "claim" my kill, but am ready if I need too. Perhaps you could inscribe other types of bullets with initials or an identifying mark on the base!

I guess that would work if I got my boyfriend to reload for me ! I shoot a 30-06 browning bar semi ( Belgian made) so the 22 years I have owned this gun I have only ever shot 180 grain factory bullets.

I would assume that if you shot it, you also tagged it and you kept the rack. their story/version of events really don't matter at that point.

Where I live a group can hunt together if everyone has a deer tag or moose . So as I said I went to help them fill their tags because they don't live around here and were heading home in 2 days . I myself had over a month to fill my tag. I was just being helpful. What bothered me was the taking credit for something they did not shoot!
