Funny how a story changes!!

From what you describe sounds like the boys swapped stories because of two issues, one it was a really nice buck and two they couldn't stand to be outdone by a women. You know what you have shot and no one can take that or the truth away from you. They however are living the lie and that will never change.

mrgoat, I am sitting right beside her, lol. Sorry if telling her your name wasn't kosher. However if we meet up for coffee she'll be with me.

The true colors of a person always comes out, sometimes it takes longer, but they come out. You know the truth, keeping hunting with honor.

Thanks !!! I must say there is some really nice people on this site ! I can't wait to share some of my funny hunting stories with you all!

Just caulk it up to experience ( bad as it may be) as we stroll through life all we can do is try to connect with good people. Often times they can be hard to find. Don't loose hope though, many more people good than bad. Sorry to hear your story, hunting is the journey. The kill is most often secondary to the experience. Good luck this season hope you get a giant.

Thanks for the words of wisdom! I will try my best for a wall hanger ! I love everything about hunting , after the trigger has been pulled is when the fun starts if you ask me. Right now I am teaching myself how to brain tan a deer hide , lots of work but I am enjoying it at the same time!

Lol , sorry if my story sounded like I took an ass shot. My first shot was in the lungs after that for me to take a fallow up shot would have been an ass shot . I did not take the shot, that is when the ( friend) took two shots at it and said it ran over a hill , which it did not . It was laying dead where I last saw it with only one bullet hole in it.

Who has the deer now? The truth is the truth is any case, but possession is nice as well.

Situations can get awkward even when the facts and hits aren't under dispute, and in many cases its the opposite as in each hunter would rather the other tag it. Sometimes its better to keep the peace, and sometimes its nicer to keep your tag. The first time it happened to me, the guy I was hunting with took a long shot at a big mulie, and while we both thought it lurched a bit when it left there wasn't really much to go on. It was in the sandhills, with no snow. We both looked for it, separately and together and as it happened were together when I saw the distant limping buck walking away. Harris bipods were a bit of a novelty back then, and I got on my belly and shot it twice at 450.Longest shots of my life at that point. As it turned out he was hit through the ankle a few inches above the hoof. Both of us were willing to let the other have it, both could see that a case could be made either way, and honestly both would just as soon take it home. Ultimately I told him to keep it, and he didn't argue long. It scored 183 and change. It was years before I felt great about it. Sometimes doing the right thing is hard.

True enough!! And I get what your saying .. As for me it was never a issue that I wanted the deer , I was there to help them . Even after we all saw how big it was , I never cared until the story changed , that's what hurt a bit.. I always keep friends that are straight talkers ... But all in all it was a lesson learned! I have 26 years of hunting under my belt and still going strong. :)

Wow I can't get over these types of stories. It sounds really competitive out there. A few years back my buddy and I were hunting and he shot a deer a little bit back and it started to run when I dropped it with a second follow up shot into the boiler room. My shot likely killed the deer but I told him it was his and that he had to clean it now :)

The mount is now in the states.

They took the deer back to Wisconsin with them, and have always kept her out of the story. She didn't care about them having the deer, or mount really, it just bothers her they didn't give her the credit she deserves. And she is right.

PS: I replied for her because at this moment she is cooking me a giant pan of ruffed grouse for supper :p

Whatever you do do not take up waterfowling then. Everybody in the group is a champion wingshooter in that game!! Especially the shooters who need one box of ammo per bird!! According to them they knock down triples on every pass!! Laugh2

So true! I started hunting waterfowl with my pops so it never mattered who shot the bird as it was coming back to the same home. But he always talked about his old hunting partners claiming his shots. What was especially funny were the two barrel shooters claiming birds that were dropped on a third shot?!? Go figure that one out. But it wasnt until my pops passed away and I began hunting with others that I came to experience this first hand. Every waterfowl hunter is apparenly a champion shooter, and the only ones capable of dropping ducks in the blind is themselves

If that happens in your group, stop shooting, then resume once they start complaining about not getting birds. Or resume once you realize it made no difference.

I used to get teased because I shoot a 16 SxS and not a 12 pump or semi, but not once they hunted with me. I don't use it because it is superior, I use it because it works for me and puts meat on the table. I haven't found anything like it in a 12 gauge that I can shoot so well with in 30 years of waterfowl hunting. Don't pick on us double hunters! You might get taught a lesson! Lol
