Nice going, don't know about that patch of missing fur but I think it looks pretty good overall...... Any story to your hunt?

Hoping you wore gloves skinning him. Brought a mangy one to a taxidermist once. He practically chased me out of the shop Usually starts in the tail and you see a few out here with bare tails. Cold usually kills them.

Yes. I never handle any coyotes without rubber gloves, whether they look mangy or not.

I have no experience with mange but I didn’t think this was the case.

Humans cannot catch mange from a dog or cat. The mites that affect humans are a different subspecies called Sarcoptes scabiei hominis. These mites cause a contagious condition called scabies, which can spread quickly among people through physical contact. Animal mites do not survive well on human skin.

Shoulder mites no value on fur market but if you are making a rug it will have that spot on it. Makes a good trophy.

I would agree that we cannot catch mange but it appears we can get scabies from an infected coyote. This article mentions a specific human adapted variety of mite that coyotes carry and can infect humans. Though it is not life threatening, don’t think I personally desire direct contact with mites of any variety! Hence the gloves.

Haven't had too much opportunity to go out this year, but did get a nice looking dog with the Tavor in Dec.

Hutterite's pay pretty decent out here for pelts..
