Fur friendly bullet for 222

Looking for advice on a fur friendly bullet for my 222. 1:14 twist barrel.
Hollow point vs plastic tip vs soft point

Also wondering if anyone has any experience with Speer’s, they’re half the price of Sierra and Berger’s

Any experience with FMJs? There are tens of thousands of owners with AR15s in their lockers and millions of rounds of 55-gr ball ammo getting older in their ammo lockers. If you're reloading, there's an ample supply of bullets right there.
 
First off do NOT go the fmj route. Fmj's either zip through doing very little damage and letting the coyote run off or tumble and blow a fist size hole through the hide.
My 222 load is 18.5 gr imr 4198 and a 40gr vmax. It's a fairly slow load but by far the most fur friendly load out of all the varmint guns I have.
222 is nice as it doesn't have the absolute screaming speeds a lot of coyote guns have.
Vmax is my favorite bullet of all sizes as long as speeds are kept in check but Sierra blitzkings or nosler ballistic tips also work very well from what I have tried.
The speers I don't have much experience with but a lot of old timers loved the soft points for coyotes so if you have em I'd load a few and try them out.
 
Thanks yotarunner. I’ve heard mixed reviews on the v max. Some people say they splatter and make a mess. Never tried anything lighter than 50 grains so might give the 40 grain vmax a try.
 
My coyote load for the 222 is 55 gr. Speer Varmint with 22 gr. H322. I shoot this load from a 22" barrel Rem. 788 @ 3060 fps.
 
Thanks vmax. 22 grains of H322 is what I use right now with 52 gr Bergers. Crazy accurate but getting a bit pricy.
 
The Hornady sx sp are good as this what I use in my 223. I used this when I had a22-250 also with reduced velocities but not by much
 
i was only talkin a bloke yesterday about his pro days of shooting foxes for fur....... he used a 22 hornet and 222, 222 often mostly with 40gr sp but said many used fmj -

he was spotlighting, an said would wait for fox to turn front on an hit them in the cut line .... with the 40gr projie.. or mostly the Hornet.


ive done alot of foxing with the 222, but its not fur friendly with SP, perhaps super light ? an not excessively fast

I have used vmax from 32gr up to 55gr in every varmint gun iv had from 204 to 220 swift and what I have learned is that when you get speeds too high the bullets tend to splatter and if you don't get that bullet inside the ribcage your chances of a mess go way up. For careful aimed shots vmax works great. For runners and hail Marys they are not the best.
 
40 V-Max is a good choice. I also have had decent success with the Speer 52 grain HPFB
It has a large open nose which seems to open quickly. But the BC of this bullet is not
great. Usually very accurate though. Dave.

Vmax are an affordable option for ballistic tips and can be found almost anywhere so I will give them a try.
 
Interesting on the spsx, I've started loading them but haven't shot any yet as a replacement to my 50gr zmax and partitions I'm running out of. I thought they would be explosive on the coyotes. The 222's diet for 50gr bullet loads (rem 600 and 700hb) is 19.5gr 4198.
