Ok coyote slayers with a 6 creed or 243 which bullet and velocity combo do you use to minimize pelt damage? So far eveything I use puts giant holes in them, puts em down hard but pelt damage is excessive.

Last victim with a 6'' hole

Thanks for the feedback

PS I know theres lot of other cartridges that may be better for this application but a 6creed is what I have. My 223 is now on the naughty list.......

Fur friendly and 6mm aren’t really know for being the best combo. I would look at loading a 55gr ballistic tip maybe, shouldn’t have exits at least. Or possibly go with something more solid like a tsx and try to just get pencil holes through. I’ve shot a lot of coyotes with mine and those are about the best results I remember. Saving fur was never my priority though.

Go heavy and skip the varmint bullets. 90-100gr big game hunting bullets have a reputation for not expanding much on coyotes, reducing pelt damage compared to faster and more explosive options.

And what is it that you've tried thus far?

I’d try some 58gr v-maxes or 62gr varmint grenades. That’s what I use. Do your part to stay off bone.
Trapper is spot on. You want to take advantage of the lightweight varmint bullets, push it fast for a flat trajectory, the faster you push them, the faster they explode, no exit hole. You gonna regret if if you go heavy cuz it’s gonna expand a and go right through, it’s gonna be dead tho…

95 berger vld, 80gr berger varmint and 85gr barnes at 3350fps, maybe slowing the barnes down would do the trick?

Bullets stay together at slower speeds. The faster you push them, the faster they explode and that’s what you want. You don’t want heavy bullet mass inertia by any means. A 22-250 or a 204 ruger would be a better choice for that particular reason.

Franktank is spot on in my opinion. Id drive them at or near max and use the varmit grenade. Keep us posted. I have some Varmit grenades in 6mm if youd like some to try. Just send me your address and ill pop a bunch in a bubble mailer. I have used Berger 105 Hybrid target out of my 6BR and broadside it leaves a quarter size hole without hitting bone, face on through the throat there was no exit from 125-250 but I havent shot a pile with this bullet. Only shot four with this bullet so not a lot of results. Send me a PM and ill get em in the mail

I have a 6 CM and light bullets will expand and blow holes in them, I use my 223 mostly but have shot some with the 6 CM with 105gr barnes match burners, I have some 95gr barnes LRX but haven't tried them on coyotes yet but they should hold together.
I used the 127 LRX out of my 6.5WSM few years back shoulder shot 2 coyotes, one at 320yds and the other at 555yds and both had a four inch hole in them. But it was in the shoulder so

I have been using the barnes tts85 in 243 and few i got for a sample have been a small holes. I have also used Hornady 100g interlocks and hole size was same as 223 out few I shot.
