fussy browning buckmark? or spring problems?

I recently bought a used Browning Buckmark pistol and although I'm happy with everything else about it, it seems very picky about ammo for complete cycling. Even when I used some high velocity stuff it didn't cycle completely and I would get stovepipes or the next round not loaded.
Is this normal for the Buckmark?
Should I look into replacing the spring? and if so, where to get one and which kind ( I don't know the specs on the current one).
What ammo should I be trying to make her happy?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmm... if you bought it used maybe the best place to begin is with stripping it down and giving it a good cleaning and then a good lubing and reassembly. I have never really has trouble with my buck marks being too finicky about ammo as long as it wasn't low velocity or sub-sonic. Mine mostly shoot the American Eagle 38 grain hollowpoints, that come in bricks of 400 (red box) and I only ever encounter the occasional stoppage. I have also had good luck with most of the CCI higher velocity stuff that I have tried.
 
I have one and I find that I do have to keep the slides very clean and lubed. I do find that only HV stuff will cycle the action well. On a side note, I was shooting it the other day and for some reason it would not fire if the bullet was fed through the mag. It would only shoot single loaded rounds. After much cursing, I noticed the screws on top to remove the slide were loose. Once these were tightened up, no problems. Why this affected the firing I do not know, but there you have it.

Already gave it a good cleaning and it still didn't cycle well with the Federal bulk nor Win. Xpert High Velocity ammo I had on me when I last tested it. I will try some of the CCI High Velocity stuff next. I'm just miffed cause most reviews say it should eat just about anything standard velocity or higher.

Ahh! that may solve my problem. When I cleaned it I noticed that only the back screw holding the top/sights / slide had a lock washer under it and I believe that BOTH screws are supposed to have these ( someone confirm that for me please). So maybe the slide was a bit loose due to this. I'll find another washer the same size as soon as it's confirmed that it should have 2 and try again with them tight.

they both had lockwashers on mine if that means anything.......
The top strap screws work a little loose also over time even with the lock washers. Keep them tight, check them often. It caused the EXACT same situation you describe to happen to me also. Some put loktite on them I think, I never did and dont know if its advised or its necessary. I dont own the gun anymore but I checked the screws with the hex wrench very often and snugged them up. It worked flawlessly after that.

Thanks for the confirmation on the screws. I'll look into some locktite that's not too permanent.

With out highjacking this thread iv been experiencing a similar problem, with my URX failing to eject.
I have been using Federal GOLD Target ammo and some other ammo that came recommended, however it fails to eject 80% of the time. Then a fellow club member suggested I try Hyper Velocity ammo, and that stuff works every time with out any issues.

Im very curious if tightening these screws actually resolved the problem. im going to look and into it.
I hope i dont have to use the HV ammo every time as i find its not as accurate especially at longer distances.

Tightening the screws didn't fix the problem. Although mine was not as bad as yours. I would get 9 of ten rounds ejecting for most ammo I tried. I started to investigate that it might be an ejector issue instead but have now put the gun away for the winter and will look at it again in the spring (outdoor gunrage only in my area).
