Future Weapons New Rifle ???

I won't dismiss a company simply because it is new to building firearms. Every one starts some where. Magpul has proven they can build quality products that work. Sure, the company may be new to firearms, but we don't know who they have working for them. Besides, Kalashnikov was a tank commander, Gatling had no engineering background what so ever, and Colt was a simple soldier.

Dismissing them because of the name is just stupid.

That being said, I'll wait until the design is tested and proven before I join the Masada circle jerk bandwagon. As far as I can tell, you must remove the barrel just to access the piston. That is stupid.

Just because thegun was designed in months doesnt mean its somehow inferior. It hasnt been released yet because they are doing testing. Not a lot of companies do much testing in the states to begin with.

Gaston glock himself didn't do the design. He hired a team to design. As long as Magpul hires a competent team, which I suspect they do, it does not matter what the company brand name is.

it takes about 4 seconds to remove the barrel though, and if your accessing the piston chances are your cleaning it(as well as the barrel). i'd think it'd make for a quick and thorough clean with that feature.
Sure, it takes four seconds, then after cleaning you can return to the range to re-zero the rifle as the barrel will not return to the same zero.

Hence my problem with it.

yep, that'd be a huge downside if that's the case, but that'd be a huge oversight not to have covered that issue so it'll lock back into zero. i guess we'll have to wait and see.

I cant believe people are knocking on new designs by new designers, what are we, promoting stagnation here? Geez, wed all be in teh stone age still by this logic. Heck, lets never let anyone creatively think of something new, ever again. Well simply sit on what we have...forever.

Reminds me of that ancient race that killed off anyone who showed signs of extra intelligence or creativity...and we all could wager a guess as to what happened to them.

At SHOT, I spoke to the company owner. He explained that unlike companies that are bidding on a military contract, he started with a blank page, meaning that his design was not based upon a lot of conflicting, weird, ever changing requirements.
The military is notorious for asking for something, then revising it part way through, until it does nothing really well, and everything sort of well.
Richard and his team set out to build a well thought out gun, and from what I saw, he succeeded. Of course, I never had a chance to fire it, only handle a few display pieces, so take that FWIW.

better check your history then matt as the masada name is taken from
history and the tale is anything but "###"...

I know my history Donny, and I don't care if the name came from some Jews who prefered to die rather than surrender to some Romans. It just sounds dumb for a rifle.

And to anyone else who might jump on my comment, no I don't buy rifles based on what their name is. It's not a deciding factor. I just think this rifle could have had a cooler name.

Wow thanks for the response now I have been able to find most of the previous threads on this rifle...

I have to say that I have stayed away from black rifles except for a cheap non-restricted Chinese SKS that I bought for my son a couple of years ago.

Here is my take on the Magpul rifle...

If it can shoot MOA and can be legally imported into this country as non-restricted I would snap it up in a second...

I wouldn't waste a second of my time caring what it was called either...

Now if it was only available in pink I would hesitate but I would still buy it I would tell my wife and anyone else for that matter that I bought it for her...

Man I hope this comes together I really like the switch barrel idea I'm even thinking about a barrel in the new 450 Bushmaster round... :D
