Hey guys,

I've recently purchase a FVSR 22.lr from Savage. I love the gun and all but the stock seems to be very cheaply made and I cannot get a good cheek well when aiming. Now I know Boyds make a great tacticool (Now called Pro Varmint) stock for this rifle and that Midway metal makes an even cooler one, but it's pricey and all made in the US. My question is, do any of you know a Canadian compagny or dealer that would sell a good aftermarket stock for my FVSR.

Some of you already know what the Taticool looks like, but Midway makes an AWESOME on too.

Enjoy and thanks in advance for your help and replies.

The boyds will be about $150 landed at your door. Unless you get custom options. That isn't very much for what you are getting. Remember though on a savage you have to contact savage usa for longer bolts, trigger guard and magazine plate.

Yes I know everything there is to know about Boyds, but is there anybody in Canada that can offer a similar or alternative product. Trying to see what is out there for this particular rifle. Did you look at MidwayMetal, what do you think?

Well, I've posted this photo so many times I think everyone has seen it....but...it's my own FV-SR with an Accu-Riser screwed onto it. The black rubber even matches the cheesy Savage stock! :) If you're dead-set on $175 Boyd's option (stock & bits from Savage) then go that route, but, I found the factory stock would suffice with an improved cheek weld. It was about $40, and improved the shooting experience 100%. Here is that photo of it, my daughter holding it. (not shooting) It had just come off of a round of pigeon clearing in the barn behind her.

Just throwing the idea out there....

Nothing really in Canada.
Yes it was very meh to me.

Go with the Boyd's Tacticool, it feels great. 110% improvement in balance and ergonomics. Boyd's also offers a metal trigger guard and bottom metal set. Same as the OEM ones, not upgraded like DIP's bottom metal.

If you want upgraded bottom metal, google savage gunsmithing Scott Null. He ships to Canada, uses USPS which is good, and it costs $38.

Personally, I have the crap tastic bottom metal and don't mind it because I'll be pillar bedding my stock, with some aluminum c channel to reinforce the bottom on the inside. Also, my OEM action screws from an FV-SR seemed to be long enough to secure the action in the stock. Anyone else that's made the switch and not needed longer screws?

Thanks for the advise guys, seems like the Tacticool is the choice of many. Will see what Midway answer is for shipping north of the border.

Thanks for the picture. What is that rail you have on there. I saw it on a few pics but never seen for sale any where.

Hey Cirrus8~it's a Savage "Tri-Rail" from the TRR models. (Mark II and 9317s) I see them come up for sale on EE from time to time, I think the TRR buyers sometimes get them...then realize they don't want a sharp, clunky pc. of black aluminum on there. :) I like the look of it, and it holds the optics....and any other toys I feel like throwing on there! lol

I've got a BSEV. Like it quite a bit, but I haven't had a chance to do any serious playing with it to find the ammo it likes, etc.

CBSA fee?
Since when?

Sure enough ! The CBSA (tax collectors) finally got me in their Toronto shipping terminal. This was my 3rd Boyds stock and sure as $#@T the Canada Post mail carrier (she`s pretty hot BTW) rang my doorbell and needed to collect $ 32.00 bucks for GST/PST and the "handling fee" those border bandits charge to open and inspect the package and tape it back together.

So indeed ,they will on occasion on a slow day ,open, inspect ,and tax and surcharge your item ! This happens moreso on items worth over a certain amount. It`s pretty much like Russian roulette ,sometimes they check ,sometimes they don`t, who the hell knows the logic and the determining factors behind the decision ?

But IMHO ,these stocks are worth every penny ,and doubt you will find something comparable that`s made here in Canada ,although it would certainly be nice ,but I don`t think the market would make it viable ,at least not at the Boyds price point.

Must be a new money grab for Canada Post. I've been charged broker fees a few times in the past, but it was always $5, then went up to $7 - way better than FedEx and UPS that have charged me over 100% of the value of the order.

Its not new at all... I've got over 200 orders from Brownells and about 1 out of 8 get hit by CBSA.... And one thing I noticed is parcel shipped USPS Priority get hit 90% of the time.

How much do they ding you for? As mentioned, in the past, I never paid more than $5 or $7. And it's funny, because I don't seem to get dinged more from the USPS. However, I will flat out refuse to buy if it's shipped from out of the country with Fedex or UPS,

Not a brokerage fee ,just good `ole PST and GST and the CBSA "handling" fee (about $10 bucks)

They also include shipping in the taxing formulation.......nice eh ?

Now the UPS nonsence and their brokerage fees.....well that`s just plain crazy !!! The only time the little brown truck comes to my house ,is when I order from Amazon.ca (free shipping via UPS)

I also have a USA postal address where I can take a short drive over the border and pick stuff up and save plenty of cash where vendors only use UPS.

I plan on ordering a few more Boyds stocks and getting them shipped to my US addy and pick up those and other items when I go before Christmas.
