Hi there:

Out of frustration and impatience at my bolt release / latch going off by itself for no rhyme or reason (I have searched online and others have reported this - seems like a very light spring), I decided to attempt to take it out to clean the assembly in that hopes that maybe it will help..

The problem is, of course, there is no YouTube video showing how to do this. I have not seen anyone try to replace/clean this part.

I took a look at the lower and see that there is a block piece with a hex screw or allen key screw in it. I figured, ah, how hard can this be?

So I took the screw/bolt out and took the block piece out.

There was then a cover (I found out it was called the bolt hold open top plate). I removed that.

I then saw that the bolt release/catch was one bar with the release on one end and some other piece on the other end and it turns/swivels as you press the release. So I took it out.

Out popped a spring. That was for the bolt release lever and I saw it went in that hole.

I thought I was done so I put the gun down...then a very small piece popped out...I thought it was debris and was going to throw it out. Then I thought it was a broken piece from somewhere which may explain the erratic behaviour of the bolt release.

Turns out this piece actually has a name, the "magazine stop assembly"

OK, so look at the below picture here. On the right I segregated all the pieces in which I know where they go when reassembling. On the left is the piece that popped out that I thought was garbage, but it has a purpose.

Here is a zoomed in of that piece

But for the life of me I have no idea where this magazine stop piece goes. Clearly it somehow would protrude out or something near the mag well. I haven't been able to figure it out. What is strange is that between the magwell and the bolt release button assembly with the bar (when installed), there is a channel and the channel is not flat - it is grooved and has some rolls, like a small hill. I am thinking that piece must go there, but I haven't figured out how. Clearly the plate has to go on flush, so it can't protrude up top.

Here's the lower for my FX9 with all the above parts out.

Does anyone who where the magazine stop piece goes?

Freedom Ordnance sells it as a set with the bolt hold open top plate.

https://freedomordnance.com/product/magazine-stop-assembly/

That gives me a clue maybe that they (maybe) work together, but I am not a handy nor a technical guy (at least with these things):

Not sure if anyone is willing to open their FX9 and take a photo similar to what I have above with the top plate on and then unscrew it and take a photo of it off, so perhaps it would show where that magazine stop is supposed to go.

Your help as always is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Yeah, through trial and error after I posted the original message, plus looking at the kit FO sells and associated photo, I figured it out. Definitely people don't want to take this apart aside - if it falls on the grass, it will be very difficult to find.
