An interesting addition to the Ruger American family of rifles. Seems like it could be a bit of a Goldilocks rifle. Heavier barrel than a sporter but not as heavy as a traditional varmint. I think I would like one of these in a .223 when they become available here.

Based on the MSRP they will be cheaper than the Savage Hog Hunters, lighter and have detachable mags. However it is not apples to apples as the Savages have open sights and heavier 20" barrels vs. no sights and either 22" or 18" barrels.

I like the 308 one with the 18" barrel! That would be a nice light, handy rifle to have - way lighter than my scout and much more scratchable without remorse.

Ooooooh the creedmoore would tempt me but I'd have to look into ammo cost and availability in that chambering in our area before jumping in.

I'm not sure how they could screw up a set-up like that.

I guess I'll keep the compact in .308 or 7-08 on my list instead then.

After watching the video, I have to say, rarely I've seen a rifle uglier than this. Even a view of the stock itself was enough, but the grip cap sealed it.

The last two river products that I have purchased have been junk, with the kind of q.c. you would expect from Norinco. Never again....

M77 Compact and Frontier for me... I am avoiding the "basement" line-up from all manufacturers...

That's a bit harsh, no? Think of the TC Dimension, the Mossberg Tactical lever, Savage Axis.......... that Ruger's starting to look pretty awesome! :D

If one can afford it then go for it.
Understand though that not everyone has a disposable income.

It's nice to have some affordable options.

I was interested in one of the Ruger American Predator's in 308Win with the nice 18" bull barrel but after reading the terrible review from Chuckhawk I think I will need to wait and see what other reviewers say before pulling the trigger on one.
