FYI: Soft ejectors in 2006 PARAs

In 2006 my best friend bought a brand new Para SSP .45 Auto and he has only put about 400 rounds through it since then. The other day he showed me that the ejector had been pounded back a good millimeter and the material was badly mushroomed - this thing was clearly on its way out.

To clarify, I'm NOT talking about the "extractor" (the little claw or hook that pulls the spent casing out of the chamber) but rather the "ejector" (a fixed block of material attached to the frame against which the spent casing is rammed in order to make it fly out of the ejection port).

He contacted Para and was told that his situation was not unique at all (they were aware of it) - that some 2006 Paras were fitted with ejectors made from substandard "soft" material. Since my friend is the original owner, Para offered to make good on the situation (original owners get a lifetime warranty). He could either bear the costs and lost time of shipping it to Para for repair, OR they would simply send him the part (with no need for him to prove the original one is damaged since they knew of the problem, in general, already) BUT if they sent him the part and they weren't installing it, his lifetime warranty would continue MINUS the ejector itself being covered.

However, this info may be of interest to anyone buying second hand - especially from the original owner in which case the original owner can get the problem rectified by having Para send him the part, at least, free of charge).

Any feedback on this situation from anyone else would be appreciated.

Seems the proper fix is to replace the factory original with a high quality steel one when the original goes south & be done with it. ;)

['Course this occurred to me as I bite down on a ridiculously overpriced Cuban cigar, looking over this thread and chuckling to myself, from a Corinthian leather couch aboard a Gulfstream IV somewhere over Nevada]. :p

Your english makes too much sence to be a Nigerian prince ;)

I would say just have them ship the ejector to your friend, if he knows how to replace it. The extractor shouldn't be THAT much more expenciveif it ever fails.

I had the same thing happen. After sending it back at a substatial cost both ways, the replacement ejector is doing the same thing. The solution for me was to keep a small file in my shooting bag and 'dress' it when it gets too bad. The other issue is that my Para 45 throws the spent brass so darn far that one almost needs to pack a lunch before you start rounding it up. The record distance for a casing was 30 feet! Apparently, as the ejector gets shorter, the brass will fall closer. (only need to pack a light snack!)
